Why Your Luna Health Bar Could Be Affecting Your Health
Not too long ago, I decided to try the ever-so-popular Luna Bar. I had forgotten (Thank you ADHD) about the free sample I had requested in the mail from them until it arrived that day. Let me tell you, the Lemon Zest Luna Bar is not recommended! The first bite was so sweet it reminded me of that candy powdered dipping fun stick you got as a kid. Parents, why did you ever allow us to eat that?! The second bite just continued to get sweeter and sweeter until finally, I ended up tossing the so-called nutritional bar into the garbage. I'm honestly not even sure why they consider it a women's nutritional health bar when it isn't all that good for you to begin with. For one, the bar has so much soy listed in the ingredients that it is a serious concern since it has been shown to cause cancer and infertility in women.
These are the ingredients listed in the Lemon Zest Luna Bar:
Protein Grain Blend (Soy Protein Isolate, Organic Rolled Oats, Organic Rice Flour, Organic Roasted Soybeans, Organic Soy Flour, Organic Milled Flaxseed), Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Dried Cane Syrup, Chicory Fiber Syrup, Organic High Oleic Sunflower Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Palm Kernel Oil‡, Organic Palm Kernel Solids, Organic Soy Flour, Organic Lemon Juice Concentrate, Organic Glucose Syrup, Natural Flavors, Organic Natural Flavors, Organic Soy Lecithin, Citric Acid, Sea Salt, Pectin, Sodium Bicarbonate.
The other big issue is that there are a whopping 9 grams of sugar and 95 milligrams of sodium listed in the nutritional facts:
190 calories, 6 g fat, 2.5 g saturated fat, 26 g carbohydrates, 9 g sugar, 8 g protein, 2.0 g fiber, 95 mg sodium
Our body does not need all of that added sugar or salt! Sorry Luna Bar, but it's not a healthy alternative for women and downright scary with all of that soy!
If you are looking for a nutritional alternative to help curb your hunger, reach for a piece of fruit that contains natural sugars. Try an apple with a small amount of natural unsweetened nut butter.
If you simply need a boost of energy for your work day, may I suggest Mantra Labs, which was co-founded by Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester of the hit television series Supernatural).
Mantra Labs is home to good wholesome products like GO, a nutritional drink that contains no sugar. Just the all-natural good stuff like natural caffeine from tea leaves for energy, oceanic electrolytes for hydration, recovery herbs, and vitamins that will keep you going when you need to power through your work day.
Go contains:
0 Calories, 0 Sugar, 100mg caffeine, Minerals, Herbs, Algae, 70+ trace minerals, Deep Ocean Minerals Vitamin, and mineral boost. 500% B12, 250% B5, and 50% for C, B1, B2, B3, B6, and B9.
Making the right choices for your health is vital in 2021, especially as we continue to age. For me, it means ditching those health bars like Luna and following a healthier journey in the new year. What about you?
