For most of us, caffeine is a daily must-have to function through our workday. Yet drinking caffeinated beverages like coffee, tea, soda, and energy drinks can ultimately affect your health in a negative way because it is a drug.

Caffeine causes dehydration, mood swings, lack of sleep, and can increase some symptoms of diseases like Interstitial Cystitis Disease.

If kicking the caffeine habit has become one of your goals this 2021 year (I'm right there with you), then there are a few short and long term effects you need to know about.

Quitting cold turkey isn't a good idea, especially if you are currently consuming several cups of caffeine a day. Even those of us like myself who drink one cup of caffeine a day can still experience symptoms from the withdrawal.

Keep in mind that while those withdrawal symptoms may seem like the world is coming to an end or at the very least someone's head is going to get bit off (oooh witchy!), most of those negative effects will only last for a couple of days my lovelies.

Trust me, there are so many marvelous reasons for quitting the caffeine habit if you have noticed a drop in your energy levels, sleep, mood swings or it seems to be affecting your health in other ways.

Consuming that daily cup of coffee, soda, or energy drink has been linked to frequent headaches despite the fact it has been used to treat headaches! Ugh! That's not a win-win situation!

What's worse is that caffeine causes our blood vessels to restrict, which leads to slow blood flow! Those withdrawal symptoms include temporary headaches, so be prepared and avoid any headache medications that contain caffeine!

An added bonus to kicking the caffeine habit is weight loss! Even coffee drinkers can benefit since we often flavor our cup of java with creamers and sweeteners that are high in calories and plain and simple, not good for our health. And don't think that diet soda is a benefit to keeping your weight in check. Diet sodas have been linked to weight gain as much as their regular counterpart. That fake sugar in your diet soda can even make you crave sweets rather than avoid them!

Quitting caffeine could make you feel more relaxed. You won't be experiencing those morning or late-night jitters, which can also help your stress levels. It can even lessen the irritability you have been experiencing at work. Just keep in mind that kicking the habit will make you a bit irritable for a few days until your mind adjusts to the withdrawal symptoms of the caffeinated drug.

Kicking your soda habit may make you feel well-rested. Caffeinated beverages like coffee and soda have a direct impact on our body's sleep-wake cycle. The drug lasts for several hours in our body meaning that midday soda can keep you up at night. Skipping the caffeine can help you get a better night's sleep because your body will recognize when it's time for bed.

Because caffeine is a drug stimulant, it will most likely feel tired during the withdrawal phase. That low energy level will only last a few days, however, and the rewards of quitting caffeine will be greater than you could have ever imagined!

If you are worried about your energy levels being too low, cut back on your caffeine consumption a little at a time instead of quitting cold turkey. If you are like me and only drink one cup of caffeine a day, try cutting it down to one cup every other day until you no longer need the addictive beverage.

Finally, if you need a morning alternative for your coffee that won't leave you feeling blah, try Rise by MantraLabs. Rise is a citrus-coconut beverage created by co-founders Paul Janowitz and Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester of the television show Supernatural).

RISE can help you kick your caffeinated habit naturally while giving you focus and endurance throughout your workday with 100 percent satisfaction guaranteed! It honestly doesn't get any better than that.

Sadly, a lot of us are addicted to caffeine, but if you start with small baby steps, it can be done. If you need to, start really small by consuming a 3/4 cup of coffee rather than your usual 1 cup and continue to lessen the amount until you are drinking none at all.
