Clean eating has been getting a lot of attention lately, but still, has some a little confused about the lifestyle. What is it? What does it involve?
Clean eating is about getting back to nature! It's about eating healthy and limiting processed foods and those not-so-healthy choices we tend to make. It's about consuming fresh foods like fruits and vegetables. It's about anything we grow that comes from mother nature like nuts, seeds, meat, and seafood.
Clean eating is also about cutting back on grains that have been processed, all of those yucky additives, sugar, and unhealthy fats. It means living a natural lifestyle just as our prehistoric ancestors did and cooking from scratch!
Am I saying that clean eating is an easy lifestyle? Of course not! Does it mean you will be eating plain and tasteless foods? Absolutely not!
Clean eating doesn't mean you have to eat foods that are dull and boring. There is no reason you have to take away the enjoyment of eating good foods! You my friend just need to find the right combination of natural foods that work for you.
Below are my best tips to help you get started:
Fill up on fresh fruits and vegetables.
Fresh produce can help reduce your risk for a number of diseases including heart disease, high blood pressure, and cancer. They can even help improve your mental health.
Eat wild when possible.
Skip processed meats like cold cuts, hot dogs, and bacon. Expand your taste of meat if you must with wild elk, deer, turkey, rabbit, boar, ostrich, emu, buffalo, tuna, salmon, and alligator.
Skip the processed foods.
I know this isn't as easy as me just telling you, but trust me your body will thank you for it! Mother nature never intended for us to eat foods that are filled with artificial flavors and colors. We were never meant to consume foods stripped of their natural goodness like White bread and pasta. We are real human beings, right? So why aren't we filling our bodies with real rather than fake foods?
Limit your sugar intake.
Most of us consume more sugar than we realize. Manufacturers produce products that are filled with sugar so that we keep coming back for more. They want us addicted to the white stuff and sadly, they have succeeded! Sugar has been said to be more addictive than the drug cocaine! That's just downright scary, don't you think?
Clean eating means cutting down on all of those added sugars by limiting sodas, sweets, and watching labels for products like sauces, cereals, and other processed foods that most likely contain the sweet stuff.
If you need a pick me up energy boost that doesn'contain sugar, consider a nutrient drink like GO from MantraLabs that will get you going and help keep you going.
Watch your salt intake.
Like sugar, sodium is one of the main ingredients in many products that are processed and sold. Those frozen dinners you are consuming are loaded with sodium that is known for raising your blood pressure and causing kidney disease. And while it is true we need some salt in our diet, we don't need as much as those frozen dinners and other processed foods contain.
If you must use salt in your diet, opt for sea salt. I was introduced to sea salt many years ago and have used it as an alternative to flavor dishes instead of table salt. Sea salt contains far less sodium than table salt, making it a better choice for clean eating in the new 2021 year.
