Day 25 of 31 Days of Halloween - THE HAUNTED MOTEL – Part 1

They all saw the farm house burning from the distance. Fire was in a rage and it was not leaving anything and burning everything down to ashes. It took almost an hour for the fire men to reach the place as the farm house was situated far from the city and another hour to stop the fire from causing more damage. “What more damage could be caused?? Everything was burned down”, the owner of the building, Ted, reported to the media. He was in another state when this disaster happened and it took him a couple of hours to reach the farm.

Fortunately, the house was insured and he got compensation from the company. He gave half of that money to charities and trusts, another half was used to renovate the house, and he turned that place to a motel. The motel costs much less to its customers though it is the only resting destination that existed in the middle of the nowhere i.e, a highway, which connects two major states. Customers appreciate Ted for being a reasonable man in the society having compassion for others, on occasions he also offered food and water for free. His business grew and expanded to a conglomerate because of his kindness and good will.

20 years later, the Motel now turned to a 3-star restaurant was been on the news because of some serious paranormal phenomenon that had been reported by the customers who stayed at nights. According to few reports, they hear a baby crying, a woman in black constantly weeping “It’s burning, its burning!!” and a ghost with a smashed head. They also feel a few cold spots near the lift area, a feeling that someone is staring at them constantly. At nights, their doors are suddenly opened/closed with a huge shutting noise and electronic devices making bizarre noises and voices that keep speaking to them.

One customer named Robert, was walking down the stairs in middle of the night to get himself some coffee as his room intercom seized to work and he felt a hand on his shoulder. His heart skipped a beat, he looked back only to see that no one was there, he gave a huge sigh and suddenly the hand pushed him down and he got injured, a fractured leg. Next day, he was found dead in hospital. But the doctors confirmed he was in very good health except the fracture and no fracture would cause death.

The motel started to lose customers and no one dared to stay at nights. And yet, receptionists and staff of the motel are still feeling the abnormal conditions of the motel, like one day the laundry workers decided to take a break but one of them, Jonathan said they still have a load to finish and everyone else left. He was loading the machine and felt some liquid dripping from the ceiling onto his shoulders, he looked above only to see a goth looking woman with misshaped legs was staring at him as if ready to kill him.

He ran for his life and she chased him down to the canteen, when his colleagues saw him running they stopped him to ask what had happened and when they went in they saw water dripping from the ceiling and laughed at him. He tried to convince them but they all ignored him. He felt sad and he looked outside the room only to see the ghost standing in the corner and staring at him with a smirk. He wanted to show it to them, when they looked, as expected, they saw nothing. The next day, he was found dead in his apartment with his head decapitated from his body..

Paranormal phenomenon became more apparent day after day as one customer, Sheryl, complained that she was waiting in her room for her husband to come back as he went to buy few things in motel store, she heard a little child crying in next room. She opened the door and went in to look, no one except a 2-years old baby girl sitting on a sofa with a torn teddy bear in her hand and crying. Sheryl went closer to the girl and asked “why are you crying. Where are your parents?” The girl said in a crying voice, “They are here and we all are waiting”. Sheryl looked around and asked, “I do not see them and what are you waiting for?” The baby looked onto the ceiling and smiled and said, “They are here, we are waiting to kill”. Sheryl looked above only to see the misshaped woman sitting and smiling at the baby. Sheryl suddenly felt the baby’s hands around her neck trying to kill her. Sheryl’s husband heard her crying for help and opened the room and suddenly there was nothing. They checked out 5 minutes later.

It was time for Ted to call the ghost investigators and explain the situation to them. Two of them made a short visit to the motel and as and when they entered, some of their devices failed to work. They promised Ted that they felt that there was indeed some “unexplained phenomenon” happening in the motel and they would come back with more staff and with more advanced devices. Ted was happy about this. The next day, 5 investigators got down from their car before the motel and one among them was Emma. She kept staring at the motel and suddenly she felt her cheeks cold and when she touched it, she realized she was crying. Ted came out of his office to welcome them. The team lead introduced one by one to Ted when he came close to Emma, he was shocked.
