Lake Hillier is a saline lake on the edge of Middle Island, the largest of the Recherche Archipelago's islands and islets off the south coast of Western Australia's Goldfields-Esperance region. It stands out because of its pink color. The Southern Ocean (or, by some definitions, the Indian Ocean) is separated from the lake by a long and thin shore.
Lake Hillier is roughly 600 meters (2,000 feet) long and 250 meters (820 feet) wide. It is bordered by a sand rim and a dense woodland of paperbark and eucalyptus trees, with a short strip of sand dunes covered in vegetation separating its northern edge from Middle Island's northern coast. The lake's most remarkable feature is its vivid pink color. The brilliant color remains constant even when the water is placed in a container.
