Mountain flowers

The vegetation of the Triglav National Park is very rich and diverse. Species diversity is related to the diversity of ecosystems.

Ecosystems are conditioned by various factors, including natural geography (altitude range, exposure, geological structure) and anthropological (intensity of impact on nature, farming methods, urbanization).

In the highlands, living conditions are very difficult. The plants have adapted to long and cold winters, to short summers, to low temperatures, to strong ultraviolet radiation, to wind, lack of water, and to shallow and poorly nutritious soils in various ways. Some with intense flower color and dwarf and cushion growth, others with fleshy or hairy leaves, the third with the formation of germinal buds.

The vegetation in the park is quite well known. The first naturalists and botanists to explore the park area were J. A. Scopoli, B. Hacquet, F. K. Wulfen, and K. Zois. Today, about 1,600 species of plants are known in the park area.
