What began in Florence in 1931 at the International Congress of Animal Welfare Organizations as the day on which the world should protect animals from torture has evolved over time into much more. Throughout its history, man has developed in coexistence with animals. If we care for animals, then it is our moral duty to care for them in such a way that we do not cause them unnecessary suffering and allow them a life worth living.
Raising public awareness on World Animal Day is aimed at society as a whole and not exclusively at animal owners. The protection of animals is one of the values of Slovenian society, enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia and is the duty of everyone. Therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food and the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary Medicine and Plant Protection regularly carry out various campaigns to raise awareness of the population of Slovenia about responsible animal ownership. The responsible owner knows the needs of the animal and his duties.
Let us celebrate World Animal Day, these wonderful creatures that complement our lives, with them. Too few people are still aware that animals are also sentient beings and not just something that is an integral part of this planet. Animals can be very good friends that give extra charm to our lives. Animals are not cruel, rude or evil, but behave according to feeling. Which we can’t claim for people. In many ways, animals are better than humans.
Animals are also an important factor in the human diet. They give us meat, milk, honey and eggs. They can also be a source of income for us. So they give us a lot and take very little in return. Therefore, it is right that we are aware of this and respect them and treat them nicely. Let's put ourselves in their skin, at least for a moment, and many things will be clear to us ... sometimes we forget that humans are not the only and by far not the most important creatures on this planet.
