“Finish your studies and succeed for that is the only the treasure that we can leave on to you.”
This was always the line that my parents would say to me every time I’m leaving for school – both an inspiration and motivation.
Every one of us has our own story of motivation, how are we being motivated to succeed. And this is my story.
As a first child, my parents always have high expectations on me as a person, and most especially in academics. And I guess it’s not only me I know some of you are experiencing the same thing. I grew up being an achiever since grade school and my motto is to be “ALWAYS ON TOP”. Back in elementary days I don’t really know what it means to be on top – what lies behind it, all I know is that I made it. And that was influenced by my father’s reward system, his own kind of giving me motivation to succeed.
“If you will be the first honor I will give you what you want.”
That’s my favorite line since then, the most precious line that I want to hear every time I’m leaving for school. That’s why I always pay attention during class discussions, participates in every activity inside the class and even in school, always present in every competition, and studies every lesson every night before I go to sleep. That was my annual academic routine. I have a different favorite month of the year unlike other child my age, my favorite month was not my birth month nor December, but it was March – recognition month. From the very beginning of the school year I’m only looking forward on the day of the announcement of who will be the top student. And when the teacher-in-charge says,
“The top student is …”,
Hearing my name being announced beats up my heart fast, and my mind would burst out because of the excitement and happiness I’m feeling inside. I’m excited and happy at the same time not because I made it on top but it was because of the reward that my father will give me. At that time everyone always thought that I was happy because I was the top student but no, it may seem different but I don’t actually care about much of my academic reward, it’s always because of my father’s promise that he will give me anything I want as long as I’m on top. And that’s the promise I’m always holding on, even up to now.
I may have a different perspective on achieving my goals but we have the same intension and that is to succeed and make our parent’s proud. Reaching our dreams may not be as easy as 1,2,3 we will encounter many struggles that may pull us down and make us discourage, but even though we may be having our different ups and down we should always put in our minds that it’s only a challenge for us to take to examine how determine we are in achieving our goals.
What’s your story of motivation? Comment it down, I would love to read it. Thank you. ✨
