Gulayan sa Paaralan Project; The Benefits and the Purpose!

Even though we may believe we nurture our gardens, Jenny Uglow once said, "Our gardens are naturing us."

We chose to work on our "Gulayan sa Paaralan Project" (Vegetable Garden for Our School Project) last Friday after my students' second periodical. We have our own respectable space to work on, and it would be a school-based contest, so my students are incredibly enthusiastic to complete it.

And what enthused them even more was the promise of a reward if we succeeded. Every time we work in our garden, I buy them snacks to energise them. Therefore whenever we work on our Gulayan, they are so happy. Given that farming is their primary source of food and money, it also follows that my Aeta students are excellent gardeners. Therefore, they are skilled at making our Gulayan sa Paaaralan.

These days, projects of this nature for our school are crucial. The Gulayan sa Paaralan Program, also known as the GPP, strives to build an understanding of agriculture as a life support system and to enhance food security in our public schools and communities. In summary, Gulayan sa Paaralan contributes significantly to the success of the school-based feeding program by offering kids a reassuringly healthy cuisine, assisting the administration in improving nutritional status, and subtly instilling values and the value of agriculture.

The school is a fundamental base for knowledge and learning and is the perfect location for a project like "Gulayan sa Paaralan." The kids will gain from it in terms of sustainability, the value of these veggies, their vitamins and nutrients, and the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.

By converting these vacant areas into a sparsely vegetated pasture, we may transform the school into a tranquil setting and raise awareness among the student body about the benefits of a balanced diet.

In conclusion, the "Gulayan sa Paaralan" project, when entirely executed, would benefit the school and its student body and the community as a whole because the project will serve as an example for the community and raise their awareness of the value of a green environment.

In addition, our students learned the significance and advantages of this initiative and how it fosters positive relationships with their classmates. Cooperation and teamwork are more important for them since they would eventually help them become better people.

So, I took the opportunity to take some photos of them while working.

I wish I had something like GPP when I was in elementary school. I think all we did was plant one seed in a small cup. Honestly that was fun as a kid to see it's progress each day. Learning to garden via school would be really neat. I learned via my father we had a nice size garden on my child hood property.

Here we do have classes for farming but they are electives only in highschool. I think everyone should learn the importance of growing plants though. Take care and God bless you 💚 🙏
