The Blessings Of Introversion

If you were asked to describe an introvert, what would you say? Let me guess. Introverts are shy, antisocial, insecure people with low self esteem, hence their constant desire for isolation. Hmm

Whether you believe it or not, that's wickedly stereotypical and enormously wrong! It's actually funny how people easily just class introverts and expect only some certain behavioral traits from them without bothering to know them.

Contrary to popular opinion, introverts are not shy people neither are they antisocial. Just like an extrovert, introverts want to also socialize and 'have fun', but unlike extroverts, they exert more energy for less excitement when they are supposedly having fun and as such they usually need to recharge from time to time, unlike the extrovert who can go on and in under such circumstances. The need for the introvert to recharge both physically and mentally; an exercise that can only be done in seclusion and isolation, is what people have come to misunderstood as introverts been antisocial.

Like every other person, introverts also want to have friends. The difference is that they tend to be less inclined to accept everybody as what everybody does easily can be quite exerting for them, and what's friendship if we don't have common interest? People tend to tag introvert life as boring but that's not true. Introverts are creative, artistic, adventurous and fun-loving, they just have a quiet approach to life an a need for solitary time. While some might see this as a problem or curse, it's easily a blessing. Introverts are natural inventors because of this quiet approach to life and solitary time.

They spend most of their time alone thinking intelligently, which is a prerequisite for identifying a problem. I've mentioned that there introverts are naturally inventors due to their ability to carry out critical assessment, reasoning and thinking, which is something they do in their solitary time, but there are two types; those whose result of their critical thinking is identifying a problem and those whose result is to find a tenable and viable solution.

The world system is naturally designed to favour extroverts actually. We tend to mistake being loud for confidence and happiness, the constant need to want to say something is mistaken for courage or intelligence, but such arrangement makes it harder for people who speak softly and are rather good listeners, to feel left out. Because of this erroneous reward system, introverts are usually seen as unhappy people with low self-esteem. This couldn't be farther than the truths.

There's actually a scientific explanation for why introverts might come across as antisocial. It's stems from two chemicals found in the human brain. These chemicals are dopamine and acetylcholine. Dopamine can be seen as an energy bar that is released under certain circumstances like when we take risk or do exciting stuffs. This chemical makes extroverts feel great, but introverts quickly get overstimulated as they are more sensitive to Dopamine. The brain produces the rather slow-burning acetylcholine when we concentrate or focus our minds, hence the extroverts need for solitary time to encourage the release of acetylcholine. It invariably make introverts feel relaxed, content and alert really.

Introverts tend to be deep talkers as compared to extroverts. While the extrovert will fill his time with small talks, the introverts would rather be having a reasonable and meaningful conversation instead. This again make them seem like they have nothing to say when they actually do, but can't because they don't find small talks stimulating. They are known to have few friends, but usually have deeper connections with these friends as against extroverts who have many friends but shallow in depth.

In a noisy world such as ours, extroverts have no choice than to come up with strategies to drown out the noise, such as using headphones in public places or finding a quiet corner in the area they find themselves. While we introverts adore and love the seemingly chaotic and disordered nature of our world, it's in the quiet place that we find peace and feel at home.

Conclusion

I hope I've been able to teach you a few things that will help you to better understand and relate with introverts. These are wonderful people who just as much as anyone want to experience the world. So, next time you meet one, I hope you really try to meet and know them instead of looking at them from the lens of the misconceptions that we have about them today.

True. I don't know why some people won't consider us, introvert as friends. Maybe we are shy at first, but we just need a little bit of talking and getting to know each other approach.

Thank you! I'm an introvert to some extent and I like to have fun to the fullest, it's just that being in an unfamiliar crowd puts me off.

People who have a personality with the characteristics of phlegmatic fit perfectly with the description you made of an introverted person... a phlegmatic person is extremely quiet, they are very observant, they have few friends, they prefer to be alone, they don't talk much... I have many phlegmatic friends and I accept them as they are... but they are not in my list to cheer up a party... hahaha... interesting your article.

Not in your list to cheer up a party😂😂. You're right about that. They don't bring the fun but they can enjoy it contrary to popular stereotype
