Self-Love Is Not Bad
There are people who view self-love as selfishness but the truth is they have never tried to love themselves in the times they needed the most. People talk less about self-love and maybe because it sounds a little bit lonely when in fact it shouldn't be. You shouldn't be ashamed to say that you are practicing self-love because it's a wonderful thing in this world. Loving yourself for you who you really are is such a wonderful feeling.
When I was young, I thought self-love meant loving yourself when no one even loved you. It is isolating yourself from everyone and loving yourself because no one has got your back. Now I've grown up realizing that my definition of self-love way back before is incorrect. Self-love is accepting yourself for who you are and not comparing yourself to others.
Most people want to seek love from the other half which is going to hurt you if it fails to hit your expectations. This is what we call 'romantic relationships.' Looking for a partner who can appreciate you for who you are and someone who will show you how much they really care for you. I know it's a beautiful feeling to have someone by your side but do not forget that when a certain person decided to stop showing you love, it's going to break you in pieces. This is why you need to learn the art of self-love and from the moment you learn it, you don't have to chase love.
We keep looking for the things we don't have in life. We keep comparing our progress with that of the other people. We feel demotivated everytime we feel that we are behind. We feel frustrated everytime we see someone achieving the things we failed to achieve. We shouldn't treat ourselves this way. We need to work on loving ourselves so that we can see the best version of ourselves. Instead of pointing out what we don't have and what we lack in life, let us appreciate our assets, our talents and everything about us that really shine. In this way, we will realized that there's no reason to compare ourself when we know that we also got things others don't have.
Love yourself so no one can make you feel less of a person.
Love yourself until you will see how worthy you are. If you love yourself, other people cannot ruin the way you see yourself. No matter how many times they would try to say your failures in life, it won't be enough to determine your worth and value in this world. I know no one can make us feel less worthy if only we learn to ignore it and focus on the brighter sides of life.
However, when loving yourself it shouldn't exceed too much. It shouldn't lead to becoming a narcissistic person who doesn't care about others. Someone who has extreme self-involvement where it doesn't see anyone but only its own self. It shouldn't be the kind of self-love that you will get in this world. Love yourself in the ways you also love others the way you have learn to appreciate your own value. It shouldn't be selfish and conditional, it should be caring and understanding. In this way, others will also love you.
I have been learning to love myself instead of learning how to love someone else. I love my family and the important people in my life but investing love in someone romantically is what I cannot do. I should love myself first before I would love someone else, just like the saying goes, how can you love others if you don't love yourself? Always remember that loving yourself is not selfish nor lonely, it's a beautiful feeling that gives a different meaning into how you see yourself in this world.
