It is not over because you have not got on the train yet!

In first scene of this movie we can see the ambulance doctors taking the wounded Carlito to the ambulance car. They are putting him on stretcher. He is thinking about his life, his choices, his way....

First what he remebers is courtroom, himself, his lawyer, judge, jury... he is finally free. His lawyer Dave took him out of the jail. They are cleebrating for the whole day and night, and Caarlito says to his lawyer that he is not going to be gangster anymore, he starts a new life.

Of course, things are not that easy, some crazy things are happening, and now Carlito has a lot of money, he buys a night club, and he is againg in love with his girlfriend Gail. Of course, his life is not that easy as he was thinking it is going to be.

Later on Gail is pregnant, he is saving money for their new life, he decided to be husband and father, to be good example, to have home, to be good friends, good cousin....

Can he?

It seems that he can, but I forgot to tell you one small thing, or maybe it is not that small. Benny Blanco from the Bronx.

When Carlito saw him for the first time he told him some rude things, and Benny, young and ambitious is not going to forgive that.

At the last scene we see how Carlito was wounded, he was trying to get to the train, but before he is on the train, Benny is there, he shoots Carlito, and Carlito's friends, who worked with Benny to protect himself. We can again see the doctors trying to help Carlito, Gail is also there, he gives her money, and he dies.

This is one more movie with strong messages.

First of all, you are what you are, and you are who you are. People can change some things, but their essence can not be changed. If you are good you will be good forever. If you are a doctor you will help to someone, everythine when you can. And if you are a gangster, you will end up like a gangster, street is always there looking what you are doing.

Second, never be rude to anyone. You can never know what can happen to you.

Third, never trust anyone. You can never be sure what is someone ready to do.

Carlito's Way" is considered by many to be a companion piece of sorts to "Scarface" - but in its own ways it is vastly different. As "GoodFellas" differed a great deal from "Casino" in its narrative methods, "Carlito's Way" isn't as broad and theatrical as "Scarface." Of course, it's still a DePalma film, and that means we get some beautiful set pieces - but for the most part DePalma avoids his excessive visuals and instead opts for a balanced mixture of both storyline and directorial flair. It is not a sequel to "Scarface" - it is an expansion, and it seems entirely apt that its narrative is more mature, considering that Carlito Brigante (the main character) is wiser than Tony Montana from "Scarface." Carlito is a Puerto Rican ex-con who gets out of a thirty-year jail sentence based on a technicality after serving a mere five years of sentence. Faced with a new life and fresh horizons, he decides to heed the lessons he learned in jail and embark on a new and honest lifestyle.

"Scarface" was Greek tragedy insofar as Tony Montana was doomed to a downfall based on his own egotism and stubbornness. Like Oedipus in Sophocles' classic story, Montana was too bull-headed to take the advice of his wife and friends and was entirely responsible for his own emotional (and, in "Scarface's" case, physical) demise.
