Donald Trump's war against China

Recently, I saw a very interesting metaphor that accurately describes the US-China trade war. Basically, all I’ve seen was an image (see below) of American football where two players from opposing teams were challenging each other to take control of the ball and to finally score a touchdown.

After reading a while on this subject, which is not new to me at all, I finally understood the metaphor: two great players from two different major teams are trying to win the game = both China and the U.S. are trying to win supremacy and take total control of international trade. Moreover, each country wants to become superior than the other, in order to dictate the rules of the game for bigger profits and trade supremacy. Think about it as a World Cup winner team and Super Bowl champions. Now, let’s see which one is which.

Both China and the U.S. are great players, they understand the rules of the game and try to use different tactics to win the game. Actually, this is the entire idea of the problem: both countries have different ideas and they must enforce them into the same game. Both countries play a very good game and by playing the way they play, the game itself reveals different skill sets.

If you are a spectator and watch the game on TV, you will see that China tries to play the American game. China’s economy tries to play the U.S. foreign policy game. The U.S. is pressuring the Chinese government to change and play the American style. This should be a long game…neither team wants to lose the game.

Trade is one thing, but recently, China and the U.S. is fighting this trade war also in a military way, with the focus in the South China Sea. Actually, we have seen this happening for almost 15 years. American and Chinese naval exercises are hold in order to intimidate the opponent.

Now with the increase of tensions between the U.S. and China, Beijing is increasing its military drills in this region and even fires aircraft-carrier missile in warning to U.S. and to show the ability to counter the U.S. forces. China considers it has more rights in the South China Sea, while the U.S., Australia and neighboring countries reject China’s claims.
