As a student, I wore a badge with the character of Pushkin, read his poetry and thought that the whole world was mine. Belgrade was bright then, everything smelled of hope and nothing hinted at the crazy years of the civil war of the former Yugoslavia!

Aleksandar Sergeyevich Pushkin quarantined because of cholera in 1827. writes:

Let me dear brothers, sisters, fellow citizens and all countrymens, to congratulate you a great spring holiday from quarantine!

Everything will go away and everything will pass, All worries and panic will go away, Again the roads will become flat And the gardens will be full of flowers again.

Let's call for help reason, Let's beat the disease by force of knowledge, And the days of the hard exam We survive as one family!

We will become cleaner and wiser They did not succumb to the dark and fear. Let us rise in spirit and become closer and better to each other!

And let's have a festive chair We are all looking forward to Life again, And let the Highest on this day send a piece of happiness to every home!

Veliki ruski pisac Aleksandar Sergejevič Puškin nalazeći se u karantinu zbog kolere 1827. godine zapisao je:

Sve će otići i sve će proći,
otići će sve brige i panika,
opet će putevi postati ravni
i vrtovi će opet biti puni cveća.

Pozovimo u pomoć razum,
Pobedimo bolest silom znanja,
I dane teškog ispita
preživimo kao jedna porodica!

Postaćemo čistiji i mudriji
ne podlegli mraku i strahu.
Uzdignimo se duhom i postaćemo
bliži i bolji jedni prema drugima!

I neka se za prazničnim stolom
Svi opet radujemo Životu,
I neka i na ovaj dan Svevišnji
pošalje komad sreće u svaki dom!

Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin was a Russian poet, playwright, and novelist of the Romantic era who is considered by many to be the greatest Russian poet and the founder of modern Russian literature. Pushkin was born into Russian nobility in Moscow.

Aleksandr Pushkin is -- the greatest of all Russian writers. The major part of his lyrical poetry was written between 1820 and 1830, but some of his poetical masterpieces were composed in the last seven years of his life, when he was turning his attention to prose. A development can be traced from the sparkling ebullience of his early verse -- the crowning achievement of which is the first chapter of Evgeny Onegin, written in 1823 -- to the concetrated expressiveness and restrained power of his later poetry. By effecting a new synthesis between the three main ingredients of the Russian literary idiom -- the Church Slovanic, the Western European borrowings, and the spoken vernacular -- Pushkin created the language of modern Russian poetry. His personal life was made difficult by his conflicts with the authorities who disapproved of his liberal views. He was killed in a duel. The Dream Not long ago, in a charming dream, I saw myself -- a king with crown's treasure; I was in love with you, it seemed, And heart was beating with a pleasure. I sang my passion's song by your enchanting knees. Why, dreams, you didn't prolong my happiness forever? But gods deprived me not of whole their favor: I only lost the kingdom of my dreams.

It is held that Pushkin is the best Russian poet and the father of modern Russian literature. He was one of the first in Russia to start writing in the vernacular, while developing his own style in which he mixed satire, romance and drama. Pushkin's maternal great-grandfather was an Ethiopian black man, Ibrahim Petrovich Hannibal, who came to Russia as a slave, but eventually became the adopted godson of Peter the Great. As a descendant of an old impoverished noble family, he was left in the early childhood to raise the farmer Nikita Kozlov and the liberated peasant Arina Rodionova Jakovljeva. It is to her that he can thank his later excellent knowledge of Russian folk art and language. He was educated at a noble school in the Imperial Village, where, thanks to liberal teachers, the spirit of political free-thinking ruled.
