ADOPTING THE RAPID CHANGES IN EDUCATION

Disclaimer: I am not an expert when it comes to developing a Module, this article is based on my experiences only. Way back on our Second Semester we are tasked to critique a module, what was the strength and weaknesses of it and what was our recommendations and what was the knowledge we gained on developing a module.

I HOPE EVERYONE WILL FIND TIME TO READ THIS...

Module

• Defined as a unit, chapter, topic, or segment of instruction. It is a standard unit or instructional section of your course that is a “self-contained” chunk of instruction. A week is a common module length, but it can be shorter or longer depending upon content and your teaching style.

TEACHER'S ROLE

The development of the module is an important thing and role that the teacher must have in order to meet the needs of the students, because of the rapidly changing times it is one of the most useful teaching tools that can help students to continue learning and acquires knowledge. Developing a module requires a thorough ideas and knowledge in order for it to be effective and useful. On the other hand, it is important for the teacher to know the components of a module so that the module will be systematic or has a smooth flow and easy to understand.

THE ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS OF AN EFFECTIVE MODULE:

The first is to put a Title, not just a title but it must cover the whole lesson of a module, it should give students an inference as to what or what the content is for and what they will study in that module. . In addition, it will also be a reflection of the entire module.

Next are the students who will use or your Target Learners, it is important that we know who will be the beneficiaries of the module we will do. You also need to specify whether these students are in the formal study set-up or the so-called “Out of School Youth”, that way you will know what attack you will be taking in order to form the module.

Third is the Overview, in this section we will discuss what the module is about, whether the introduction or discussion is in textual or graphical form, it consists of all the lessons that the child will encounter as they continue to answer the module.

Fourth is the goal or expected outcomes [Objectives Or Learning Outcomes], it is important for the student to know what he will get or achieve in his journey. In this part it is necessary to contain the three components of the child's learning, the mental, affective and psychomotor that will provide pleasure, interest and learning to the student.

Fifth is the Instruction to the learners. This section outlines the correct use of the module, the answering processes and when the module should be completed, so that students also know how to divide their time so they can properly fulfill the requirements of the module. This is followed by the required entry behavior. Here, the child demonstrates his scheme, as he has prior knowledge of that lesson.

Next is the Pre-test, which deals with various activities that measure the student's prior knowledge. The teacher must have a good way or style in answering this part, so that the task is not considered a loss just because it is a Pre-test. Most of the time students think that a pre-test is not necessary in their learning process since it has no equivalent grade, that needs to be addressed.

Eighth is the answers to the first test or the Answer Key, it is important for the child to know where they went wrong to be corrected immediately, one of the important basis is the answer key in correcting wrong answers. The importance of this is that the student will immediately understand why his answer to each item is wrong and correct. But on the negative side there are times that students will just copy the answers located in the answer key that's why we need to pay attention on this part.

This is followed by Learning Activities. This is the body of the module, it presents the tasks or lessons that will be assigned to the students. It contains all the information that will help the child to complete the tasks prepared by the teacher. The tenth part is the series of activities. These are the various important activities that will help the child's learning, be it tests or other activities related to what they have read. The answers to the question or answer key will be followed immediately, as mentioned above this is for students to know their answer immediately but this is only optional because there are activities that do not require an Answer key such as writing an essay.

Another part of the development of the module is the so-called Criterion Post Test, to test the extent to which the child has learned in his / her study of the module, which will be immediately followed by answers to the question or answer key so that the child will understands his or her answers. It is also advisable to have Self Evaluation (appreciation). We can see if that module helped in realizing the objectives we This part is important because it will measure how well the student has understood the lessons contained in the module.

The final part is the compilation of the List Of References and documentation on any data contained in the developed module.

Why is it important for us to learn how to develop Programmed Teaching Tools towards students' self-learning?

  • So that we can be an effective teachers who are useful and make a significant contribution to the acquisition of a student's knowledge.

  • We can only say that we are doing our job well as teachers if we can change the lives of our students significantly, a teacher needs to be open to change so that he can understand his students and keep up with them.

how can we measure the effectiveness of an instructional tool?

  • An important suggestion is when we see that there is a positive change (improvement) in each student. Another reason I see that the child shows interest in learning, is also because of the demonstrated potential of instructional materials that can inspire students to become more proficient in their studies and we can also measure the effectiveness of an instructional material if the students have achieved the objectives contained in the module.

STUDENT'S and PARENT'S ROLE

If honesty in answering the modules is observed the actual level of their mastery is known. Teachers will know the appropriate interventions to provide. If parents answer the modules, the learners will be denied of these academic interventions and they will not master their lessons at all. The role of the parent is to guide their child towards academic success.[https://www.sunstar.com.ph/article/1868252/Baguio/Opinion/Fernando-Honesty-in-answering-modules]

END THOUGHT...

I know that module is somehow one of the stressors of both students, parents and teacher but we must adopt the rapid changes in education and in our society. I know we have different opinion about this distance learning approach, but one thing is that we should continue our education no matter what. BECAUSE EDUCATION IS ONE OF THE KEY TOWARDS SUCCESS, TOWARDS CHANGES.

IS IT EFFECTIVE OR NOT? IT DEPENDS ON US...

It can be hard to have engaging modules. Making something interest for both student and teacher is not always easy. Finding the best way to impart our knowledge to others is always a challenge. I liked this and the module applies to not just teaching but in other areas of life too!
