Ramadan and fooding
Ramadan a month of peace and prayer for all the Muslim brothers and sisters around the globe. Actually this part is carried out by the elders. There is a flip side as well , especially meant more for the children only. And thats called fooding.
Fooding plays a very important part during Ramadan time. Children as such are innocent not knowing much about the importance of Ramadan and fasting but infact, they know they are to get a heavy scrumptious meal when the Adhan (islamic call to prayer) is called during Maghreb (during sunset).
Infact the time for fooding is a real gathering, all family members together sit around and variety of food is being displayed in the center to reach everyone from their comfort zone. It really becomes more lively when people from other communities join us while breaking the fast. Though they do not fast they take the initiative to join us and enjoy our food.
To talk about the food they are just delicious. Especially when you taste food after long hours of fasting, the taste is just unbelievable. The pure drinking water itself adds flavour to our dry mouth.
We fast the break by eating dates and drinking water. Then comes the wide variety of snacks. Some are sweet while some are spicy. But everything goes down our stomach in one gulp. The children are probably the first one to take a hand full.
Next there are variety of juices with different flavours. Here mostly we prefer the lemon juice with equal amount of salt and sugar. We do not get tired ad most important refreshing. Even gruel or porridge goes with in. It is in the liquid form made of broken rice or Oats, added to water or milk.
After a short break all of them have their night supper which is usually rice flat bread or rice baked noodle like thing or a round crispy dish made of rice batter. The curries which usually go along with this is either beef curry or chicken. And then there are fresh green salad which acckmpanies them.
The next meal is early in the morning before the Adhan (call for prayer) is called. One has to end his meal once the call for prayer starts. People preferably go for foods like rice or Oats with a Banana or such. Not such a heavy meal before the day breaks. Most of them consume a good lot of water inorder to stay hydrated.
Hope you all enjoyed our food menu. This purely happens in our place South Kerala during Ramadan. Not aware of foods in other places.
Thanks for reading
