Reading Saves Us

Reading is the easiest and most effective way of learning for people. The education process, which starts in primary school, continues throughout life. Even though the university is completed and the final point is set, educating oneself, observing the world and life, keeping up with the changes that come across, and improving oneself by taking lessons from experience are also the unnamed classes of the school of life.

In this "School of Life", which is the most difficult of education, success, the power of overcoming difficulties and overcoming obstacles winks at us from the pages of the book. Not only success and power, but also the secrets of self-knowledge and walking on the right path are hidden in the pages of the book.

Whichever organ a person uses specifically, that organ develops more. For example, basketball players get taller, athletes have strong leg and arm muscles. The brain and thinking skills of those who acquire the habit of reading books develop. A person who does not read is incapable of doing mental gymnastics. The more awake and aware the reader is, the more dull the thoughts and expressions of those who do not read.

A book we read first reflects the author's thoughts and diagnoses. Rethinking those thoughts, arguing with others, accepting or rejecting them makes the brain think and tire, but it also improves it.

The habit of reading is not easily achieved. This requires perseverance and determination. In daily life, watching television, playing games in virtual environments, chatting, watching movies is a very easy and attractive way to put aside reading.

Voltaire said, “Learning to read is the most powerful of the arts.” In order to acquire the habit of reading, one must really take control of himself and make daily reading schedules. Reading nourishes people spiritually and strengthens them with knowledge. It warns and educates against the difficulties of life.

We live in the information age; knowledge plus thinking and putting innovations into practice by working and producing brings success. “Knowledge is power,” said the English scientist and statesman Bacon. We see that reading rates are very high in strong and advanced countries in economy, science, art, sports, every branch of social life, politics and country administration.

A book we read should shed light on “history”, and a text that includes ethical views should help us to correct our behavior. We must adapt the books we read and the knowledge we have acquired to life. This is how our culture, spirit and personality develop and rise.

Let's not forget the importance and benefits of reading as well as reading. A book is the best gift for any occasion. For example, we should spread the gift of books on special days such as New Year's Eve and birthday celebrations. The importance of reading in oral and written media, television and virtual environments should be constantly emphasized. Apart from newspapers and magazines, book information is more permanent and is a source to be consulted at any time.

As much as they teach, the book introduces us to life and makes us love it. It enriches our vocabulary and improves our speaking ability. As a result of these, human relations develop more and social character is gained. Richer vocabulary provides broader thinking ability and broadens our horizons. It enhances our ability to make decisions as well as enhances our imagination.

Reading is the first step to success. Thinking right, making the right plan and working properly are also the key. UNESCO's definition of "literacy" is "the ability to identify, understand, interpret, assemble, communicate and calculate using different types of written sources and records". Literacy is deserved by actively applying the knowledge and skills gained through reading in life.

Literacy creates a visible change in an individual's life. While this change is positive, our society does not generally reflect the respect it deserves to the “Literature”. There may be many reasons, but two of them make me very sad and worried: People with wealth, beauty, fame and similar qualities are admired more than people who read. Another is that cunning is preferred over the ethical values brought by knowledge in overcoming the difficulties to be encountered in life.

In today's world, where technology is advancing at such a dizzying pace, it does not suit us to sit idly by and watch the world with dull eyes. It promotes reading. Let's strive to reach a level that can compete with the countries of the world in the number of literate people. Only in this way can we leave a more civilized future to our children and grandchildren with rich knowledge and culture.
