A traditional festival
All of us has some reason as to how the weekend went on. Here in our place, Temple festivals are going on in full swing. This particular festival is carried out in few famous temples. The streets and the roads leading to the temples are decorated in colourful lights across the posts and trees. All these are colourful during nights. And lots of stalls are in progress throughout the night.
Lots of stalls are already booked starting from the roads. On the way we saw a sweet stall. The name of this sweet is ladoos. It is in the shape of a small ball usually yellow in colour. They are made out of gram Dal, a kind of lentil.
It is one among the famous Indian savouries. For any function, from marriage to house warming ceremonies to school functions, the presence of ladoo is a must. Usually I have seen ladoos of lemon size. But this is the first time I came across ladoos of different sizes ranging from a lemon size to 5kg ball size.
The people from our place go in large numbers just to see the festival. It is told that twelve days the devotees stay near the temple by building small tents. They observe fast for these days by abstaining themselves from eating meat and fish. They depend only on vegetables mostly root vegetables like yam, tapioca, potato etc.
So now the vegetable prices have soared high. A great opportunity for vegetable vendors to exploit the customers. Consequently, the price for meat and fish has reduced to a great extent. Another good news to customers.
Lots of stage shows are being performed during the night. To see the Unity in integrity in my place you just can visit these places to watch their functions. Where all are one irrespective of caste.
Now its the Sabarimala season here. As per Hindu mythology, the Hindus go for pilgrimage to this particular place. To describe about this temple in short - Sabarimala temple is one of the famous temple situated on top of the hills. It is told that more than 10 million devotees from all over the country visit here annually. This place is a two hour travel from my place.
The men are the one who visits the temples. They are dressed in black. This temple remains open for all devotees only from the mid of November to the end of December. It is a 41 day fasting period. They abstain from meat and fish and eat only veggies. On account of this, small rituals are being conducted in other temples, which I had mentioned in this.
All these captured in my husband's mobile and edited using canva app.
Wow it looks like something I would enjoy. Loads of food.
