Homemade pita bread for pennies
This recipe for homemade bread pie in the pot will be handy if you need bread for dinner and don't want to go to the store if you are fasting, or if you just like to bake homemade bread and taste national desserts from different countries of the world.
Almost every nation has its own bread recipe. Now I suggest you try Georgian lavash - a thick, round, fried lavash that you can make at home.
The homemade pie can be eaten hot or cold, just as you like it, with a slice of cheese, meat, salads or as a first and second course instead of bread.
Ingredients:
For 2 loaves, you can make a pie 18 cm in diameter:
7 grams of fresh yeast (or half a teaspoon of dry yeast),
0.5 teaspoons of sugar,
125 ml hot water,
165 grams of flour,
¼ teaspoon salt.
How to bake:
Crumble the yeast together in a bowl and rub in the sugar.
Then add the remaining flour and salt and knead the dough. It may seem very sticky at first, but don't add any more flour or the lava will harden. Knead the dough for a few minutes - it will soon stop sticking to your hands.
You can cover the dough with a towel and let the bowl warm up for 1 hour. After this time, knead the dough and rest for another hour - until it rises.
When the dough rises for the second time, do NOT knead it. Instead, separate the halves as gently as possible and roll in flour on all sides while heating a clean, dry pan in the oven.
Place the dough in the very hot pan and spread it with your hands on the bottom of the pan while kneading and stretching it with your fingers. Don't worry, you won't get burned, and the pan won't burn your fingers through the dough either. Try to do it as quickly as possible.
Once you've spread the dough, cover the pan and bake the cake over medium heat for 5 minutes.
Next.
Flip the cake and bake the other side for another 5 minutes without the lid. Arrange the lavash on a plate. Delicious hot or cold. You can make it into a pie sandwich. Or cut a piece and eat it with a bowl of soup.
I must admit that I never thought it was possible to make a thick lavash at home, which is a favourite of many, with a flavour similar to the famous Georgian choti bread, but I was wrong. I used a simple and inexpensive recipe. I'm happy to share it with you.
A thick, thin pie with a thin crust and soft crumbs inside is a great alternative to bread. This type of pie will be appreciated by many, so try it!
