MAN: THE UNIQUE ENGENDERED
There are three kinds of living things in the world: the plant, the animal and the human. Just like a plant, man needs to be cared for in order to grow, act and multiply. He gets enough nutrients to
he can fortify himself. Like animals, man has feelings so he is hurt, perhaps because of neglect or torture. He is trepidacious of disaster or the impact of an event that is not
expected. He gets exasperated when he is treated infelicitously but calms down whenever care is shown. But man can do more than this because man was engendered in the "image of God", so man is called his masterpiece.
How is man different from other creatures?
Each individual is mystically enchanted with different facilities that ascend him or her. These qualities accentuate him, the only human trait that sets him apart from other creatures. According to Dr. Manuel Dy Jr., man has three essential components: the mind, the heart and the hand or body.
Mind. The mind is the competency to cerebrate, to ken the essence and summary of something. It has the potency to judge, reason, evaluate, reflect and comprehend the denotement of things. So the mind is called perspicacity, reason (reason), astute consciousness, conscience and perspicacious recollection predicated on its use at every opportunity.
Heart. It is the minute part of the body that envelops the whole human being. It feels like everything is transpiring in our lives. This is where decisions and emotions emanate from. At heart the human personality is shaped.
All the evil and goodness of man is obnubilated here.
Hand or body. The hand or body designates the senses, holding, moving, working and verbalizing (orally). It is commonly utilized in the performance of an act or deed. It is not enough for a person to isolate different components of his body, the paramount thing is to understand what the utilizations
ito. The body is a paramount part of personality, as it is utilized to express the content of the mind and heart in a concrete way. Sa
through the body, man is able to express what is going on in his will. It is withal the instrument of communication with our fellow man.
God resembles man because of his faculty to ken and decide liberatingly. His potency to reason is called the mind. The puissance to cull, decide and carry out the cull is called instinct.
Through the mind, man seeks truth; so he perpetuates to research to understand and act in accordance with the truth discovered. Human perception avails to achieve this authenticity. With the cognizance discovered, he can work for the good of his fellow man. Because the human mind has inhibitions and is not as impeccable as the Engenderer, he feels inadequate. So the search for the mind to the truth does not culminate; truth is the goal of the mind.
On the other hand, the instinct as described by Santo Tomas de Aquino is a rational appetency, because it is a faculty that magnetizes good and moves away from evil. So the goal of instinct is goodness. Instinct is not magnetized to evil; it will never like the deplorable itself. Culling evil only occurs when it is shrouded in goodness and looks good and alluring. Instinct depends on the information provided by the mind. The mind influences the instinct, because it does not optate or want something he does not ken or understand. It additionally potentiates man to make and cull, so instinct is the root of responsible action.
Through instinct, a person can opt to do good. But not all good ones are identically tantamount. It is up to the person to research and ken which is best for him to opt to do. Consequently the mind and instinct, like the body, must be trained and developed in order for them to consummate their respective purposes. Otherwise, they can be utilized in the erroneous way which can obstruct the achievement of human event.
Every person has a responsibility to train, develop and perfect the mind and instinct. It is paramount to take care of them so as not to spoil the authentic purport for which they were bestowed on man. It is expected that man will develop his mind and instincts concurrently. While he has assimilated an abundance of cognizance and sagacity through study or research, it is withal expected that his responsible utilization of them will be demonstrated in his personality. That way, he will be more
good creature with good instincts. Perspicacity is not quantified by the amplitude of erudition and height of edification, but by how cognizance is utilized to dedicate oneself to the development of one's personality, accommodation to others and participation or accommodation to the community. Man is unique because of the faculty of the mind and instinct to act according to his natureā¦ to be human. The mind must be habituated to amass cognizance and sagacity to understand the instinct to do good towards the development of the personality.
