Legal images Dear writers, as you are often **in need of images for your articles**, please note that you can't just go to Google Search and take images that you like - it's not legal. You might get sued for that and pay big amounts of money to copyright owners. Here are a few places where you can get a lot of images **legally**: https://pixabay.com https://unsplash.com https://pexels.com (These three sites are the most interesting, since they don't require links back to photos. Though if you link - the authors would appreciate it.)

Here's an example of the legally used image from Wikipedia Commons:

It's not legal - actually, it is. The copyright owner should send you a removal request if he does not wants his picture embedded to your article. To do this legally, he have to have a corporation in your country, and he has to be registered in a local copyright management office, which costs around yearly $2000-$20000 depends on the country. Then he must send all the images, sources, to that copyright management office, one by one, for a fee. And then, he can issue a notice through that copyright management office for a fee. Which is $1000-$10000 depends on your country. You need about half million dollars and a company sustained for a year, and then you can sue others if you stole your cat photo. How i know this? There was a few times when i tried to remove something on the court that illegally copypasted my work. I think they still laughing on me.
Actually, copyright law (almost in any country) states that you own something as soon as you create it. It's definitely 100% illegal to copy images. Look here for some examples of [people really getting sued and fined](https://www.google.com/search?q=sued+for+taking+google+images). The fact that it's hard to enforce this doesn't make it legal.
You are right about that, because the constitute and laws protects the creator in every country - on paper. Its just not enforcable in reality. You canot get sued for sharing someones cat video or pictures. If you share the whole film of some professional studio, then they may send you a removal notice, which, if you dont comply, they can sue you. The google results you have linked, for example, giving links discussing in this topic. On the first page, the only actual lawsuit it mentions, is using someones personal images for deflamatory material about him, and the second one, is some corporation is suing google for a photo in street view which they refused to remove.
Yeah, if you dig deep - there are a lot of cases, many of them don't even publish their experience. Yes, in many cases they just ignore everything and nothing happens. That's not the way we want our site to be :) because if we ignore this and there's some critical mass of complaints ignored - it would be really profitable to actually sue the creator or creators. That's why we're directing people to legal sources.
Yeah, you are absolutely right, if a critical mass of complaints is happening, then thats above the treshold of a potential lawsuit. But i would not be concerned about this, if you get a complaint, then just delete the image. Its impossible to expect users to honor any type of copyright in this type of usage, its like asking people not to share anime memes on twitter. Copyright violation with bad intentions can be stopped (like if someone uploads a whole movie) but its impossible to sanction someone who uploads screenshots from a movie to express critism about that movie, as the freedom of speech stands above copyright, not to mention that using illustrations for a review is under an exception from the general copyright laws all around the world.
Often people a) have no idea that they're voilating something b) have no idea it's easy not to do it :) hence the warnings :)
