Hello everyone one! Hope everyone is doing great. Today the topic that I want to discuss is really important as it is a health related issue and no body can deny the fact that nothing is more precious than good health.
As we all know that Corona virus hit in 2019, and have been a controversial issue since then. As some were of the view that it is a bioweapon synthesized deliberately in laboratories to affect various regions of the world and to disrupt their economy while some said that it is nothing but a result of genetic mutation. I remember my friend telling me who is a doctor now, that during her MBBS she read about corona virus in her course book and it was written there that it is not a virus that usually affects human as it is bat virus. It is a well known fact that viruses are really specific when it comes to their host. A bat virus can cause disease only in bats, not in any other specie. But the great loss that the world has faced since COVID-19 onset economically and the number of morbidities we have seen tells us about another phenomena which is know as ADAPTATION. It states that when a virus lives for a long time in a specie other than its host, it gets adapted to its new host and then can cause disease. As Chinese population is know to consume bats and other types of animals, so the virus has been found to persist in their bodies resulting in adaptation, as of course corona virus was initially found to be in Chinese population.
Anyways whatever the reason be, it caused a great havoc in the last two and a half years, leading to thousand and thousands of mortalities each day. Thanks to God, it is reduced to very low levels now. But now a new disease has been in highlights which is Monkey pox.
Being a Molecular Genetics student I am going to start with its introduction and will get into details later on.
Introduction:
Monkey pox is caused by a virus know as "Monkey pox virus". It is named so due to its initial discovery in monkeys. It belongs to the family "Poxviridae". This disease results in lesion formation on body and doesn't affect any specific age group. It holds great similarity to the small pox disease, however it is not as deadly as small pox. Multiple cases of monkey pox have been confirmed in USA, UK, Canada and Australia.
Transmission:
Since it is a viral disease, it holds great power to spread from person to person similar to Corona virus. It is usually transmitted by cough droplets and contact with liquid that oozes out of lesions.
Symptoms:
Certain symptoms that are very common related to this outbreak are:
Cough
Fever
Body pain
Swollen lymph nodes
Prevention:
If a person is affected with this virus, distance must be kept, and try to wear mask when around such person. Utilitize clean beddings and try to stay away from infected person as long as he stays sick.
With time, vaccines get introduced but we can't wait for that time. As vaccine synthesis is a lengthy process, it will take time. For now we need to follow the precautionary measures because there is a common saying:
"Prevention is better than treatment"
Thank you for reading this article! Stay happy & blessed!
While some are of the opinion that it is a biological weapon deliberately synthesized in laboratories to affect various parts of the world and disrupt their economies ๐ I support this view. Prevention is better than cure. We will definitely take our precautions. appreciation belongs to Allah
