What is harvesting -
Harvesting may be defined as to cutting and gathering of panicles attached to the stalks. For get maximum grain yield and minimize the grain losses it is very essential to take proper way of harvesting. It is also very important to harvest in proper time.
Harvesting of rice crop-
When plants have reached full growth (at least 3 month after planting) and grain began to ripen and rice plant turns into yellow color.
There are two methods of cutting -
1. Manual cutting.
2. Mechanical cutting.
Manual cutting -
It is a traditional cutting method for Bangladesh. In this time manual cutting is also used for rice field. Some tools such as threshing racks, simple treadle threshers and animals for trampling or by hand using sharp knives or sickles are used for manual cutting. This method gives about 60% grain recovery.
Mechanical Cutting -
In this method combine harvester is very popular. Now in Bangladesh ACI company lunched mini combined harvester for harvesting. It takes 2 hours to cut 1 Acre rice field.
