Recently, I got a disc jockey mix of selected late south African reggae superstar's songs... In the person of Lucky Dube, who died painfully in the year 2007, on the 18th of October.

Dube was killed by armed robbers in Rosettenville, a suburb area of Johannesburg, shortly after dropping two of his seven children off at their uncle's house. He was driving his Chrysler 300c, which the assailants were after. Police reports suggest he was shot dead by carjackers and that they supposed him to be a Nigerian.

The very interest of this piece is in his 2001 "Romeo" in the Soul taker's album. This particular song is a love stuck track, it communicates his romantic interest in a lady.

However, In these great and compelling lyrics, is a line that has got me thinking vigorously, it says that..."You don't have to believe in everything I say right now, cause to you, I'm just another man until I prove myself to be worthy of your love". This line enthrals me, hence, the birth of this piece.

Dube glaringly makes it known that sometimes, you need to show a person you're worth before they can take you seriously. Why is this?

In today's world, genuine affection is practically unwilling to come by. People no longer see the need to be true to others, people love based on merits.

We do not have to be lethargic to work things genuinely with people. If it means substantiating your worth to a person before they can accept you, why not take some time out to do that. We are all just ordinary people until we place value on ourselves & make it known, and that beyond materialistic values, we are embodied with intangible societal assets.

Talk about love, talk about trust... Relationships cannot prevail if we tie value to tangibles alone. I have been in this, long enough, to realize that the basis of the too many splits in various romantic unions is the ineptness to invariably prove ourselves daily, with efforts.

What is worth doing, is worth doing well, in shut, whatever is worth doing at all, is worth overdoing. You either do or do not.

Until we can discern the full intent of our plans towards the emotions of others, and constantly refine ourselves, to validate ourselves, WE AIN'T READY. Verisimilitude will not thrive & unions will continue to fall out.
