Toxic Filipino Traits: Part 1

2 39

These are few of the irritating characteristics of the Filipino that need to be addressed. As much as I adore my home country, I feel compelled to criticize it, and I believe that everything that is wrong with our culture today should be brought to light so that we can clean up the entire mess and filth that has engulfed the entire archipelago.

Children's responsibilities to their parents.

It is common for parents to retire from their jobs in their 40s and live off the earnings of their children. This deprives the children of sayings which pushes them to postpone the beginning of their own independent lives. I understand that the parents were responsible for the children, but keep in mind that the children did not ask to be born into this world. The decision was made by the parents. After that, the parents decided to pass this responsibility on to their children.

Filipino parents often do not plan for their own retirement; instead, they rely on their children. Then those children do the same thing to their own children, and the cycle continues.

Crab Mentality

The presence of this toxic mentality is frequently observed in many Filipinos who are members of huge social circles. The majority of Filipinos who hold this kind of mindset would be extremely envious and jealous of a certain person who is known to him/her and who begins to realize their goals and attain virtue in life.

In order to bring the other person down, Filipinos with this kind of trait would spread false tales and resort to character assassination in order to undermine their reputation and harm the other person's relationships with others. Filipinos with crab mentality believe that they are the only ones who are entitled to all of life's pleasures, and if they cannot attain something, neither can you nor should you attempt to attain it.

Hypocrisy in the religious community.

As a Filipino, this is something that I find incredibly offensive. Many Filipinos are deeply committed to their religion, and they observe all of the rituals and rites that are required of them with complete devotion and dedication. However, once you step outside of the church, mosque, temple, and other houses of worship, hypocrisy begins to show itself. They have a proclivity to disobey the fundamental principles of their faith, as well as its regulations and prohibitions. Consider that many of the Filipinos who identify as "religious" engage in premarital sex and marital infidelity, as well as in other major sins such as political corruption, cheating, gambling, intoxication, violence, greed and selfishness, among other things.

The fact that we are regarded as one of the most pious countries in Asia, while our government is also considered to be one of the most corrupt, has a great deal to do with our current situation.

Filipino Time

It should come as no surprise that Filipinos are not well-known for being punctual. Let's say, you're meeting up with your Filipino friend at 8 a.m. Even if your friend claims to have gotten up at 8 a.m. and is on his or her way, the odds are that he or she just got up.

Filipino time is nothing more than an excuse for them to be late. They just didn't plan out their day properly. Don't waste time making excuses; instead, take action.

whether this is true for Filipinos I also don't know but because of this story I also feel that as an Indonesian there is also something similar but only in certain groups about character assassination and false speech. This is due to the existence of competition
