I'm Dying in Pain

According to teenvogue.com "Being a woman means having a strong sense of identity, accepting your body as one that adapts and changes over time, being confident, and building up the people in your life."

But behind that smile and a strong image, there is also pain inside. A kind of pain that can't be healed by saying sorry, it is a kind of pain that a woman suffered monthly and repeatedly.

And it is Menstruation or Period. Before I share my own story on how I suffered from painful menstruation. Let me discuss a little about the menstrual period so that all of the readers can understand especially the men readers/writers.

What is Menstruation or Period?

©google.com

Menstruation, or period, is normal vaginal bleeding that occurs as part of a woman's monthly cycle. Every month, your body prepares for pregnancy. If no pregnancy occurs, the uterus, or womb, sheds its lining. The menstrual blood is partly blood and partly tissue from inside the uterus. (https://medlineplus.gov/menstruation)

How long does Menstrual last?

©google.com

The average period is two to seven days in length, so bleeding for eight days or more is considered long. In general, periods on the longer end of normal (five to seven days) aren't something to worry about. So although aggravating, it's unlikely due to an underlying problem. (https://health.clevelandclinic.org/why-is-my-period-lasting-so-long/)

What are the 4 stages of the menstrual cycle?

©google.com

The menstrual cycle is complex and controlled by many different glands and the hormones that these glands produce. The four phases of the menstrual cycle are menstruation, the follicular phase, ovulation, and the luteal phase. Common menstrual problems include heavy or painful periods and premenstrual syndrome (PMS). ( https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/conditionsandtreatments/menstrual-cycle)

Why are my periods really painful?

©google.com

This painful menstruation is called dysmenorrhea. The cause is usually having too many prostaglandins, which are chemicals that your uterus makes. These chemicals make the muscles of your uterus tighten and relax, and this causes cramps. The pain can start a day or two before your period. It normally lasts for a few days, though in some women it can last longer. ( https://www.acog.org/womens-health/faqs/dysmenorrhea-painful-periods)

How can I stop my period from being so painful?

©google.com

heat – putting a heating pad or hot water bottle(wrapped in a tea towel) on your tummy may help reduce pain. warm bath or shower – taking a warm bath or shower can relieve pain and help you relax. massage – light, circular massage around your lower abdomen may also help reduce pain. Can you get pregnant during your period?

©google.com

Yes, although it's not very likely. If you have sex without using contraception, you can conceive (get pregnant) at any time during your menstrual cycle, even during or just after your period. Girl, please check yourself!

It is important to know first information before knowing others' situations.

So, now let me tell you my story on how I battle with my painful monthly visitor.

I got my period when I was 10 years old, early than others. On my first day, it was already painful like someone stabbed to death. So, my parents decided to bring me to the doctor to have a check-up and ask if it is normal.

When the check-up is done and the doctor said it was normal for the first day and it will not last long. She gives me a pain reliever to ease the pain. And the pain reliever works that time my menstrual cycle lasts about a month.

Every month when my monthly visitor came out, I normalize taking pain relievers to ease the pain. One time, my monthly visitor visited me twice and I'm shocked because it is the first time and I'm out of pain reliever. And I feel so much pain, it is so painful than before. I didn't endure the pain and I fainted. The day after, my mom bought a pain reliever so that the pain will be controlled. But the pain gets worse and I never thought that medicine didn't work out.

So we end up with a check-up and the doctor told me that my body become immune to the pain relievers I took. So she advises me to exercise and eat healthy foods when my period comes.

Every month and the menstrual pain gets worse and worse. I did everything and I researched some alternative ways but it didn't work for me. I can't even get up to my bed because of the pain and I fainted many times because of it.

My menstrual pain lasts until the last day of my period. I am in pain for almost two weeks.

I'm dying in pain until now, but I need to endure the pain because I am a breastfeeding mom and a mom of two. I am so thankful also to my husband who helped me every time I'm in pain, he is the one who takes care of the two god's creatures.

Note to husbands/ boyfriends out there:

Your wife/girlfriend is already suffering monthly and it was repeatedly. Please, help and respect your beloved wife/girlfriend. Don't give them another ache to endure. Be their alternative medicine, your care is a must.

Thank you for reading.
