Off to Paducah We Are
A lot of the time when I come in here, I am more prone to try to write something interesting or profound or share some piece of information that I find compelling in some way or another.
Not that I always succeed, and not that I am going to, in one fell swoop, tell you that I am a grand writer with even grander talent and everything I write is a must read.
I am as prone to writing crap as anyone is, of course.
And that's not to suggest that anyone is actually writing crap here. We are as much of a writing site as we are a social media site, of course. And that changes things up a bit.
It lets us sometimes just have a little chat. It lets us sometimes just talk about our lives and what we're doing and how we are feeling on a given particular day.
Stephen King used to often include a little message at the front of his books simply talking to his "dear readers." It was a way for him to open himself up a bit and show his real side. His human side.
And readers always loved it, and still do.
Besides, sometimes writing something rather mundane is still helpful beyond just communicating with the folks who stop by for the occasional read of the other stuff. I talked about as much when I wrote "Busting Down the Barriers of Writing," which talked about just writing anything for the sake of writing to keep the pen moving.
So, here I am just telling you that my wife and I will be heading off this weekend to Paducah, Kentucky for a little getaway—nothing fancy, of course. It's Paducah for Heaven's sake.
But it's also my wife's birthday on the 6th of February and she just wanted to do something different, and I am perfectly fine with that. Sometimes even when you are not necessarily going anywhere in particular or planning on doing any particular thing, it is just nice to have a little change of scenery. You know, get out of the house a bit.
It won't be anything spectacular like our recent trip to St. George Island in the Florida panhandle, or even anything like our recent trips with the camper in tow. But we will still find things to do and have fun no matter what we do.
It's like how my wife responded to me when she chose Paducah. "What's there?" I asked.
Even though I kind of know what's there, which isn't much, which is why I asked the question.
Oh, there's a casino there, and in nearby Metropolis, Illinois there is a Superman Museum. I am sure there is a Walmart somewhere around there too, and for whatever reason no matter where we go, we tend to wind up in one.
Great, we have stock in the company anyway.
But she responded simply, "You and me. You and me will be there together."
What a sweet thing to say, especially considering we have been together for 18 years and married for 16 of them. When you are with someone for that amount of time sometimes the romance of things have pretty much worn off.
But of course, we still love each other, and very much.
So, that is how we shall spend our weekend and her birthday together. Perhaps I will come back and write about what we did and maybe even share a picture or two or three or five.
Unless something comes up that is more profound and interesting to write about. The world is a trough, chock full of fodder, for all sorts of things to strike words onto a page about.
And heck, for all I know, the stuff I tell you later about Paducah might be more interesting than anything else I might tell you about.
In the meantime, onward and upward and I will see you back around on the other side.

Like the way I write and the things I write about? I write in many different places and post many of those on my Facebook Page. You can follow me there.
