Better Still

I asked one brother why he’s not writing consistently – since he write with fire that burns through the hearts of the readers.

He paused to think through. “I want to wait till I’m better at it” he says. When will you be better at it, I queried “Don’t know” he replied. I left the conversation to die hoping to resuscitate it some other time. The other day, I continued from where I stopped.

It’s been years since I started that probing and now, it’s ending like the previous. I am not giving up. I know there must be way out. And I have to exercise patience and wait until the sun is ripe to shine – again.

There are people who sabotage their talents, gifts and callings. And most times, they don’t know.

Even when someone point to their harmful attitude, they tend to shrug it off – discard it with a wave of hand. They deny it. Saying they are meant for something else. Sabotage comes from fear. And there are two types of fear: real and imaginary.

Fear is real. Plus when your talent has to do with getting your ideas across. Or facing people on daily basis, telling the bitter truth they don’t want to hear. In that situation, you can’t predict people’s reaction.

When you put out your idea, you can’t fathom their feedbacks. You can’t conclude about people’s level of engagement. You can’t say much – about what you can’t control.

But you can say a lots about what you know, and what you can control part of which is the efforts you put into your content. Or the way the content drained your strength and energy.

When you are fixated about the fear you can’t literally change; very unlikely you will do much. But when you face the fear of doing quality work, you dust up and get to work.

Most fears stem from being controlled freak. Trying to know everything beforehand. Working to ensure things work out according to plan. This may work in dreams, but not in reality.

Imaginary fear on the other hand keeps people grounded. Those who suffer from mentally created fear hardly do something worthwhile. They are stuck in meaningless rut.

Caged in endless vicious circles. Grounded in self-doubt. Imaginary fear is created. Partly result of overthinking. When you think outside the box in search of way out of a quandary, rather than test run results already discover, you prefer to perfect it and you overthink: create problem where it never existed.

Perfectionism is a cousin of fear. You want to perfect everything because you fear it might be turned down or outrightly rejected.

Perfectionism is to want to do everything right that you do nothing right.

And when it comes to doing what you love doing, whether as a beginner, intermediate or expert, you must be willing to drop your ego and do the work. You can be better, still.

Here are 7 Reasons Why We Should Put Our Talents, Gifts or Strengths to Use:

1. Other People Can Benefit From Them

Humans coexist with one another. In a symbiotic relationship, one of the ideal relationships is Commensalism where the two individuals benefit from each other.

Our gifts or talents are purposely created not just for ourselves but to help those around us.

Our gifts or talents are ours but they are not just there for us. They are given to be shared with others. Just imagine the world if nobody shared a talent.

What a gloomy world it would be!

There’s no sense of delight when we only want to serve ourselves. Sharing our talents with other people can create more lasting fulfillment.

It is actually a win-win situation. We get to exercise our talent and other people on the other end receives a benefit from it.
