Good Karma: An Unexpected Reward For Selfless Help
Many people go out of their way to help a stranger and I have to tell you, that most of them get their unexpected reward for their selfless acts. What would you do if you saw someone in need? Would you stop and help them, even at the cost of your own safety? A few days ago, I heard a story, that taught me a valuable lesson about human kindness. Before I start talking about good karma, let me tell you what happened in this story.
An Example Of Good Karma
This rather posh elderly lady got stuck on her way home. Her luxury car broke down and there was nobody to help her out. She was sitting in her car helplessly, when she saw a car stopped, reversed back and a man got out of his van and started to approach her. The lady was a little bit nervous, because she didn't really like the look of the man. She thought he would harm her in some way.
When the man arrived to her car the lady was so surprised, because of the kindness of the man. He was really helpful and in a relatively short time he fixed the car by changing the flat tire. The lady asked him how much she owes him. The man said: "Just remember, that I helped you out and when you see someone in need, you do the same." With that said, the man said goodbye to the lady, went back to his car and drove away.
The lady noted what she was told by the man and drove away too. She stopped at a Café and ordered a coffee. She noticed, that the server girl was pregnant. When the lady finished her coffee, she left a note on the table with $500 in cash, then left the Café. The server girl then went to the table and read the note, that stated the following. "This $500 is for you, because I thought it would help you out, once you have your baby." The server girl was so happy. She went home and told her husband what happened to her today. Well I don't think that I have to explain, who the husband was. You guessed it right.
So let's have a closer look about good karma.
Karma Is A Powerful Force In The Universe
The word karma is a Sanskrit word, which means to act. The law of karma states that what you give, you get. Good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people. The world is a school and we are the students. What you sow, you reap. It is a law so ancient, that it is found in almost all religions. It is the foundation of the Hindu religion, Buddhism and the belief systems of most of the world's major religions.
The law of karma is the basis of all religious teaching and the foundation of all schools of psychology. The school of karma teaches, that behavior is a choice, that you make, just like everything else. The consequences of that choice, then rule your destiny. Karma is like a river, the path it takes is unknown, but it is inevitable. Unseen forces work constantly to try to change the course of your destiny, but your goal cannot be changed, only redirected. So in a way, your fate is in your own hands.
The law of karma is a beautiful idea. It explains that everything that you do, has consequences in this life or the next. It offers a simple framework to understand a complex idea. It provides a moral compass, that guides our daily actions. It provides a framework to understand the choices of others. It presents a way to understand our own morality.
I personally think, that the law of karma is a very real and powerful idea. The problem that I have with it is, that it is so general. I think that it would be a mistake to just focus on the idea of karma and leave out the important aspects of it. For instance, what is the consequence of a choice that you make? How does that choice then further your own destiny? How do you change the course of your own destiny? How do you escape your own personal hell? How can you reclaim your own freedom? These are important questions and they are the core of an entire school of psychology, called existential psychology.
The Good Karma Cycle
Now I would like to shift gears and talk about the good karma cycle. The good karma cycle is the notion, that every choice you make in life, creates a ripple effect in the world. The choices that you make create the future and the future creates the choices that you make. The choices that you make in one life, create the future that you will live. The notion of the good karma cycle brings to light the fact, that every choice you make is a choice between two different paths. Those paths may seem equally as good, but one may be better than the other.
The good karma cycle reminds us, that our decisions are being watched over by a higher power. It offers a framework to understand the many paradoxes of human existence. It offers insight into the questions of life.
The first step in the good karma cycle is the choice to choose. You have the choice to make a decision and act upon it. Every choice that you make, creates a future, that then creates a new set of decisions to be made. The more decisions that are made, the more possible futures are created. As a result, all things are possible. The notion of the good karma cycle asks you to consider all things. It asks you to look beyond what you can see, to consider the unseen.
An important questions to ask are as I said before, what are the consequences of my choice? How does this choice then further my own destiny? The good karma cycle offers you many different options for answering these questions. You can look to the long term consequences. You can look to the medium term consequences. You can look to the short term consequences. You can look to the consequences, that you have yet to experience. There are many different routes that you can choose.
Do you believe in karma? Let me know your thoughts.
Thank you for reading.
I have witnessed a pretty lot of cases where the law of Karma strikes bad people due to their evil deeds and I have also seen cases where good people are repaid for their good deeds and yes all of this has made me believe in karma. It's Real. Great story and what a brilliant way by the lady to reciprocate the man's good deeds.
