Good evening dear readers and a happy new week. What you are about to read is a true-life story even though the characters have been changed to hide the identity of the victims. It has been a very difficult resolve to write this but I feel someone may learn a lesson or two from this. But first, get ro meet my ever available sponsors:
In 2015, some young men, supporters of the Chelsea football club went to watch a champions league match as watching it in the comfort of their homes will not be as enticing as watching with other supporters in the local football base. Among these men were Salif and Neville. The match had ended in the favor of Chelsea despite playing a very tough side, Bayern Munich. So, all the Chelsea fans Jubilated the victory. At the time all the felicitation had ended, there were no more taxis or commercial motorcycles to ferry passengers home.
Salif and Neville decided to embark on an emergency trekking back home. Few yards away from the viewing center, a police vehicle with armed police officers parked by the young lads, raided them for no offense and took them to the police station. Since no one knew their whereabouts, they slept in the police cell for the night. All their valuables including phones were taken from the. It was such a humiliating act by the police.
When the boys refused to bribe the police officers, they roped among a gang of armed robbers. Before you could say jack, they appeared before a judge in the High Court who sentenced them to life imprisonment. A lot of innocent victims have also been incarcerated for crimes they nothing about. Before their family members could find their whereabouts, they were already in the maximum prison, after being charged for armed robbery offenses.
Life in prison was another world entirely. Some of the inmates are so rich that they do business and make huge returns while still in prison. Others still have contact with their folks and they do conduct a lot of control despite being incarcerated. Warders go the extra mile in breaking some rules just to get paid by some rich inmates. Life in prison does not favor the poor. Neville felt sick at a point because of the kind of food that was served in the prison. It took time before he could adjust but he did adjust.
Salif, being a very smart boy had been studying how the prison operates and how an escape from the high walls would be possible. Single-handedly, he perforated the prison walls in bits each time they are taking into the woods to break rocks as part of their punishment. A pot-bellied warder almost caught him in one of his expeditions but was too daft to notice what the lad has been doing buy the walk.
All prisoners were made to work longer hours on Saturday. They work until they are worn out of strength. By then, the #Endsars protest had taken over the southwest part of the country and many more protests have started erupting in other places. Prisoners in the Midwestern part of the country have learned about the planned protest by youth against #badgovernance and #policebrutality. Salif's intention of escape was getting favored by this bigger platform of protest with some rich prisoners planning their escape.
Several attempts by family and relatives to appeal the case of armed robbery were charged against them so they tried and decided to accept it as their fate.
On the day of the protest in Bamenda, many prisoners escaped the prison yard through the main gates after the wardens have been disarmed but Neville, Salif, and a lot of other prisoners took the bush path where the CCTV camera couldn't record their escape. Their escape was the easiest. They got home and we're welcome with a large feast. As they celebrated, the prison authorities announced that escapee prisoners return with immediate effect. That seemed like a gullible announcement. Some prisoners went back voluntarily. Salif and Neville swore never to return there as that is a mini hell.
The young lads rather consulted the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR) with qualified lawyers who took up their case and finally for them a final release from the prison. In the end, there was no offense committed by the two young boys. They spent four years of their life in prison. Neville and Salif demanded compensation for the ill-treatment given for the period. A court infection rules in their favor and they went to Zenith.
Conclusion
Be careful where you go and at what time to retire home. Going out to do anything whatsoever during unusual times could be detrimental to an individual. There is a lot of lawlessness in our society today. To avoid being a victim, you need to apply self-control and mind who you make friends with.
I am not familiar with this series but I think I might try this one.
