Chronicles Of Dead Rats

In most parts of the world, people live with a lot of uninvited pets in their homes. Pets like bugs, cockroaches, rats, geckos, mosquitoes, and termites. In this part of the world, I mean Ajegunle, there are many homes with such unwanted pests that accommodate homes without an official invitation.

I once read of a popular Nigerian actor (RMD) who went to spend some time with his relatives abroad and found there were too many rats in the house. The presence of those black rats irritates a lot, so he dropped some food particles with Indocide in them. So the rats died and begin to decay without any trace. The offensive odor spread so quickly that neighbors had to call the police. RMD was repatriated almost immediately.

A newly wedded couple who just returned from their honeymoon in Singapore, we're settling down when to their amazement they began to notice movement in their kitchen cabinet. First of all, Amara was scared of searching out what it is all alone. So, she asked for the support of her husband Eric.

As they tiptoed into the kitchen to find out what it was, just on the gas burner, a huge female black rat, stood upright holding the chicken bone. Upon noticing four big eyeballs watching, it jumped and ran towards the door, Amara took to her heels, and Eric was confused about what to do. The rat wasn't running towards them, but into the hole under the laundry table which was just next to the door.

Before Eric could recover from the sudden perceived attack of the rat, and get some to hit it, the rat had gone.

Amara at least has found out they now have another occupant of the luxury house they paid for.

As if that wasn't enough, as they made their way through the lobby to the living room, the cries of pups were heard just close to the refrigerator. They halted and decided to take a look at what the pups may look like. Eric switched off the refrigerator to turn it upside down. Just there, the ugly tiny pups opening their mouth, like in expectation of food microbes be dropped into it.

Amara was so pissed that she said to Eric:

This is the height of it. Babe, you need to do something about these rats. They seemed to have occupied the whole house. Before you know it, they will begin to destroy home appliances, and pee in our food.

Eric was too shocked to reply, he managed to say

I am as pisses as you right now. There were no rats in this house as far as I know until when the building on the next plot of land was demolished.

First thing tomorrow morning, I will invite the fumigating company to flush out the rats.

That night, Amara slept and dreamed that the huge rat was eating the base of her leg. She woke up and found several rats going from one end of the room to the other. She just stared at them with so much hate in her heart but couldn't sleep again that night till daybreak.

The next day, the guys from the fumigation company spread the whole house and went their way. Days after, a new horizon started in the house. The odor of reading rats filled the air. So, Amara started sweeping the house as she kits herself with waterproof overalls and a nose mask. She swept a lot of tiny dead rats from different corners of the house.

For two days, dead rats were seen in the most hidden parts of the house and Amara kept sweeping it off.

The only smell they perceived now is in the bedroom. Amara had to buy Ambi-Pur air freshness to spray the room to reduce the smell. That was how the new couple lived for the first two weekends as husband and wife.

Their first church service together as man and wife is even the big deal. As they filed out for their wedding Thanksgiving with other friends and relatives, they were dropping the offerings, Eric picked a dead rat in his breast pocket as he made to pick his offering envelope. He just stylishly returned the dead rat into his pocket till after the church service.

The rat in the breast pocket was the mast to be seen around their home but or left a landmark of getting to the church and almost into the church offering box.
