Are Women Really Endangered?
Good morning friends. It had been a very cold night due to the heavy down pour that took over our space. Locking all openings did not stop the cold from coming in. That's how we slept till day break without the fan or air conditioner on.
Let me take you on a ride today on the most trending issue on social media aside from the declaration of the Vice President to run for the office of the president with many reactions, in fact, unexpected reaction. The death of the gospel singer and womanhood in Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.
It may be true that women, married women especially of the African descent through cultural heritage and religious doctrine have bore the pains of remaining in marriage where abuses is the order of the day.
That has made me considered the title of this post, Women, The Most Endangered Species.
Recently, a social media influencer in Nigeria, the popular Kemi Olunloyo who always give a twist to a trending issue changed the perspective of the discourse on the death of Osinachi Nwachukwu who was said to have been on life support in an intensive care unit of an hospital but final gave up the ghost.
Her husband was said to be the prime cause of her death. All these were kept inclinedestine until she paid the ultimate prize, death. Keeping quite in an abusive marriage is one of the teachings that Nigerian parents would teach their daughter. To hide the shame of their marriages, they have to keep the beating and many forms of abuses to themselves. Most times they don't have to share it with their friends or neighbours.
Kemi Olunloyo brought another twist to the whole matter. She said that Frank Edwards and Osinachi Nwachukwu were seeing each other. This has brought a lot of arguments and reactions in social media platforms.
In the heat of all these, how would a woman say such ills a out her fellow woman.
Some people have compared the Christian marriage which they refer to as a sham with some marriages. The first of such marriages is that of the showbiz crooner, Charly Boy whose marriage clocked forty years recently. Clearly Boy had been heard saying that a part of his marriage had been a hell for him but they still endured the marriage.
Whichever way it is poised, are women really endangered in out time. The answer is a straight yes. Women are endangered not only in marriage.
One of the reasons why women, whether literate or not have been enduring painful marriage, is that they have been wired by culture to stay in such a marriage.
Recently, a lady reported her husband in the social welfare office for beating her up for any slight provocation. When the parents of the lady heard of it they were like what gave her the impetus to report her husband.
I was very discouraged by the act of these parents when I heard. The church was seen to be playing a bad role. After meddling between the husband and wife on several occasion and finding out that the husband is addicted to such attitude and asked that he takes it slowly with his wife. He had first accepted for a while but when he resumed the beating, he came into the church to beat up his wife.
That was the worst of it all. The social welfare office too did not play a good role. When the matter was brought for the office, and they invited the young man, right before her eyes, the social welfare office look the side of the husband and failed to address the matter of the constant beating of the young lady.
As we speak, looked like the while world had crumbled against the lady. Her family could not act to protect her, neither could the social welfare office.
This is one of the trends suffered by women in our times. The play the second fiddle and are left in a hopeless situation.
Every child, male or female ought to be taught from cradle not to ever raise his or her fist against one another. The home has a lot to do in this direction.
The amount of women who have been killed through domestic violence can not be properly documented. Hence, the while world should rise to speak against any man who is seen violating a woman.
For me, any man who finds pleasure in beating a woman is not fit to be called a man.
Having said all that, women should stop raising shoulder or try to equal men. Life has drawn a border between men and women and that line ought to be respected. So, submission, loneliness and respect ought to be in the watchword of everyone, men inclusive.
Maybe a bill should be passed in to law that any culprit of domestic violence would be sentenced to death, probably this will make people hit others less..
