Daily wildlife photography: the yellow-legged gull, Larus michahellis. Found this juvenile having fun at the beach, and in the escape process when I got to close with the camera. You can recognise juvenile seagulls from the adults due to the spotted colours of the plummage, instead of the smooth colours of the adults. Photos taken in SW Alentejo, Portugal.

Sometimes.. you just get lucky! I signed up for freebitcoin's faucet newsletter only recently; I wasn't that keen of receiving daily mail, but the fact that it gives you one free daily spin in a roulette with some decent prizes finally convinced me. Most of the time, you get lottery tickets, reward points, or a couple satoshis. This time... a lot more satoshis came in!! Daily wildlife photography: the Geoffroy's spider monkey, Aletes geoffroyi. This is the biggest primate of all the 4 species of primates you can see in Costa Rica, and this was the only time I saw them while visiting the country, thanks to our guide with eagle eyes that spotted a mother and a baby high in the canopy! The mother was grabbing branches too far away for the baby to reach and was using her body as a bridge for the baby to pass. #Photography

Daily wildlife photography: the changeable hawk-eagle, Nisaetus cirrhatus. This was probably one of the most imponent eagles I've photographed... or I was just lucky to get real close! Daily wildlife photography: the american crocodile, Crocodylus acutus. These crocs can reach 4 meters and weight almost half a ton! They are beautiful... but better observed at a distance. This species can also be found in salt water, so if you decided to hit the beach in places they exist (as in some locations in Costa Rica, where these photos were taken)... don't lose sight of your surroundings! ;)

Some places leave a stronger impression than others... Taman Negara National park, in Malaysia, was one of them for me. The jungle noises, the views, and the amazing wildlife, makes me want to grab my backpack and revisit whenever I get the chance!

Daily wildlife photography: the fiddler crab, Uca tangeris. These funny crabs can be found in large groups, and there's a marked difference between males and females: males have a huge claw! I've placed both sexes in the photos so you can see the difference. This characteristic is also a great way to identify a fiddler crab. There is a great number of species, this particular one was photographed in southern Portugal, where they're pretty easy to find. #Photography

I went surfing yesterday, and left my towel drying outside. Today when I opened the window... guess what was going for a walk in a towel hanging in the 6th floor? 😁 So long since I've seen a ladybug! They are very useful, since they prey on insects that destroy crops. I just wasn't expecting to see her this high, but since they are supposed to bring good luck, it's a welcomed visitor!

Time flew by yesterday, and it was probably the first time in months I haven't posted anything here! It will be a lazy Sunday, to get some things done indoors that kept being postponed. Meanwhile, here's a memory of a distant past: a lonely island in Cambodja, during a day trip: I could use some relaxing days in these beaches! :) Have a great weekend!

Daily wildlife photography: the palm squirrel, Funambulus palmarum. These cute creatures can be found both in rural and urban areas all over Sri Lanka. The hard part of taking photos is getting them to stand still, since they're super fast: a bowl of rice in a feeding station surely helped!

Daily wildlife photography: the white-breasted waterhen, Amaurornis phoenicurus. This waterhen is an asian species, and I've seen her for the fist time roaming near a lagoon in Tangalle, Sri Lanka. I saw the adult first, with the white breast contrasting with the dark upper parts, but she wasn't alone: two juveniles were following close by! #Photography

Daily wildlife photography: the green basilisk, Basiliscus plumifrons. This is one of my favourite lizards, they're beautiful! They are also calles Jesus Christ lizards, because the can run on water's surface for short distances. I wasn't lucky enough so spot one water running, but seeing one amidst the foliage made me more than happy! Photos taken in Tortuguero national park, Costa Rica.

Daily wildlife photography: the iberian grey shrike, Lanius meridionalis. This bulky bird is a subspecies of the grey shrike, that can only be found in Portugal and Spain. Found him perching on barb wire, probably thinking the perch would be a great spot to impale its next prey! If this sounds strange... its not: shrikes are known to impale the bugs they hunt!

Daily wildlife photography: the european bee-eater, Merops apiaster. These are probably one of the most colourful birds that we have in portuguese avifauna! Although the "common" in its name, I see the black redstart a lot more commonly; maybe the opposite is true in some parts of the world. Daily wildlife photography: the iberian green frog, Rana perezi. They are probably the most common amphibian in Portugal; as the name implies, they're normally green, sometimes with a yellow stripe along the back; nevertheless, there's a considerably variation in colour patterns and tonality, as in these photos, taken just a couple minutes (and meters!) appart. #Photography

Daily wildlife photography: the spotless starling, Sturnus unicolor. These starlings are normally seen in large groups, and have a big array of sounds! I'm seeing them more and more in urban areas, although these photos were taken in a rural setting in Alentejo, Portugal.

Daily wildlife photography: the pin-tailed sandgrouse, Pterocles alchata. These little guys live in big groups, and are found more commonly in semi-desertic or arid areas; their colours allow them to better blend with the landscape. Unfortunately, I'm yet to see my fist wild sandgrouse: these photos were taken in a breeeding facility in Spain.

Taking a scan at the markets today; I see a ton of cryptos near weekly resistances! Rune is one of them. Given the price that most of these cryptos have reached not that long ago, can someone really think that this is the end for most of them? For me, now is the time to start dollar cost averaging on positions again! And I seriously doubt that I won't be happier by the end of the year... ;)

Daily wildlife photography: the cattle egret, Bubulcus ibis. Cattle egrets are commonly found near... yes, you guessed: cattle! They feed on insects, so being close to cattle is a win win situation, since they probably get more access to food, and the cattle gets rid of some bugs. The yellow tones of the plummage and the orange beaks are more pronounced during reproduction season.

Daily wildlife photography: the indian peacock, Pavo cristatus. Seeing this bird in its natural habitat is a very different experience than seeing them in an urban park somewhere in Europe, at least for me. They seem even more magestic flying to the trees, especially the males! Photos taken in Udawalawe National Park, Sri Lanka.

Daily wildlife photography: the black headed gull, Chroicocephalus ridibundus. Despite its name, the dark chocolate coloration on the head only appears in Summer; during the Winter season, the plummage pattern is the one in the photos, a white head and only a black spot or very small stripes near the auricular area. Still, even without the dark head, they're fairly easy to recognize!

Daily wildlife photography: the western reef heron, Egretta gularis. This heron exists in two distinct forms: a white one (the one on the photo) and a grey one! The white one is one of the few herons with black legs and yellow fingers, so that can help in identifying the species if you see one. Daily wildlife photography: the ring-necked parakeet, Psittacula krameri. A common (and noisy!) bird in its natural habitat, and is now an invasive species in Portugal. It's fairly frequent nowadays to see them fly by my window... and I hear them in advance! These ones where photographed in their natural habitat in Sri Lanka, sharing a meal with a furry friend. Females don't have the typical dark ring around the neck, making the distinction between sexes easy.

Daily wildlife photography: the black hornbill, Anthracoceros malayanus. This was the first wild hornbill I've seen in my life! Had just arrived to Taman Negara, a national park in Malaysia, and saw a huge bird flying to a tree top. It's in these situations that I'm even more grateful for my camera's 50x optical zoom!

Daily wildlife photography: the grizzled giant squirrel, Ratufa macroura. They don't move at lightning speed as their smaller "cousins", but they are huge! These tree squirrels can be found in India and Sri Lanka; there are three subspecies, with different coat colours. Found this one in northern Sri Lanka, delighted with a piece of bread left by some tourists.
