The Post-Covid Apocalypse
Overthinking is bad. I wrote it just in the last article under a different context, but this phrase, or warning, is correct in any occasion we present it.
Depending on our experiences, we may overthink situations and waste time predicting scenarios that could only play out on an extreme and rare occasion.
I understand why some tend to overthink situations, as they faced problems we wouldn't wish to happen to our worst enemy.
Situations that friends and family or people we could trust had never encountered and will be unable to offer proper advice. So, quite often we don't allow ourselves to proceed with the practical solution but get consumed in a never-ending consideration process, covering details that have faint chances to occur, and being unproductive.
It is a sign of these days, though, especially after Covid arrived. Nobody can blame people trying to secure their future, but nobody will also blame anyone for following the most logical and practical solution.
Nobody will blame you if you haven't built a bunker to shelter your family in case a nuclear war begins. But, nobody will also accuse an eccentric millionaire if he wastes $200k for one. Still, this is not for the common folks, we can't waste resources, time, energy, and spend brain matter for these reasons.
When The Foundations Of Societies Are Shaking
Honest people lose their faith in their fellow human beings and the foundations of our societies, especially when violent criminals remain unpunished and the culprits allowed to ruin people's lives.
A culture of not caring is breeding. Crimes unreasonable and unnecessary become the norm, while the justice system is incapable of serving the public needs.
Sometimes, maybe, we can't find an easy way out of problems because there is no easy way out.
We start calculating differently and discover a window that was an opportunity for some situations difficult to encounter. Sometimes we will skip this, thinking that more windows will appear but if we do, then we skip that one chance.
We often face problems that resemble puzzles and we think we will never handle them properly. We probably miss a small detail and waste countless hours trying to find the answer.
We become depressed when we can't solve everything. We have problems and while we can deal with them easily, sometimes our negative experiences don't allow this.
Sometimes, the game is won by not playing at all.
We should often delay our decisions since new information may appear we were unaware of previously. Strategically delaying important decisions until research is performed thoroughly can be a better approach than wasting resources and time. Sometimes time itself is the best possible solution. Some problems are indeed solving themselves.
We can be decisive and determined, only when we have the required knowledge to proceed.
We are often determined, but meet a wall in our way while running at top speed.
Determination can be stupid and fatal if not backed by knowledge and experience.
In Conclusion
Overthinking could be a symptom of perfectionism, but in a way, it is hindering our personal growth and progress.
It can also become disastrous since we have to waste so many hours on a problem that odds suggest we shouldn't encounter.
Criminal stupidity is also on the rise lately. We all have read and watched stories in local news, involving gruesome violence and deaths that could have been prevented.
Violent crimes are rising in the EU, the USA, Africa, Latin America. Maybe not just the pandemic and lockdowns resulted in such a deterioration of respect to human life, but an inherent flaw of the government's approach to the public needs.
Sometimes the collapse is imminent but we didn't listen to the sounds of the shaking foundations.
