Pandaland: Play-To-Earn on SmartBCH
SmartBCH is the host of multiple successful NFT collections that sold out thousands of NFTs at the mint phase.
One of them is Pandaland which has a unique use case offering a blockchain game under the play-to-earn model.
I previewed Pandaland here: Pandaland! GameFi on smartBCH), and all this time, investors at the mint-phase were expecting the launch with anticipation.
It is not a full launch but just the first phase of the game called the "hunt", and the options for PDA token staking.
With this action, we learn the requirements of playing Pandaland, the investment cost, and possible daily profitability at this early stage.
How To Begin With Pandaland
Pandaland does not require skills or in-game actions. It doesn't contain gameplay either. The platform focuses on the play-to-earn factor, and its success will depend on the expected profitability of its users.
Pandaland presents a Gamified DeFi platform with a staking option for LPs of PDA tokens. This is the current state of this platform and in a similar approach to Axie Infinity or Splinderlands, which as a gamer for years, I don't consider to be games.
Requirements
i) A smartBCH connected wallet
ii) 3 Panda NFTs
iii) 1000 PDA tokens
Instructions:
i) Connect your Metamask wallet to smartBCH easily with two clicks at marketcap.cash.
Just press this button at the top of the screen and sign the Metamask message. This process automatically connects Metamask to smartBCH, and users of this Web3 wallet can use the same addresses from Ethereum or other EVM compatible networks with smartBCH.
ii) To begin with the game 3 Panda NFTs are necessary. Anyone interested can purchase PandaNFTs at OASIS.
The mint phase of 3000 Panda ended months ago, so those interested should look into the OASIS marketplace, which is the main NFT marketplace of smartBCH.
Currently, the floor price for PandaNFTs is 0.18BCH.
A recommendation for those that want to test the game: Purchase at least one male and one female Panda since the game also has a breeding function that requires having both genres.
Cost currently: ~0.54BCH ($175)
iii) Besides 3 Panda NFTs, each address needs 1000 PDA tokens to participate. PDA tokens are listed on the MistSwap Dex.
Cost currently: ~0.062BCH ($20)
This brings the total cost, to start playing Pandaland to 0.6BCH or $200.
This seems to be the total cost, without any re-investing demands by the platform.
Stats and Mechanics
Some combinations of traits work better in the "hunt", and some NFTs have high enough stats to achieve victories in all rounds.
Some simple math is involved, and I wouldn't explain it better than the team in the official telegram as explaining all combinations and results is not the target of this article. There is a lot of material provided by the team in telegram.
The order we select the NFTs also matters and increases the total power of our squad as PVMihalache mentioned.
Profit
Each Panda team gets to play 6 games daily.
Upon starting the game we team up three of our Panda NFTs in our wallet.
each Panda can be used for up to 6 games daily.
Each win pays 54 PDA tokens, while each loss pays no token.
The maximum profit in PDA tokens from each game is 324 PDA.
Price of PDA token is currently $0.02 (or 0.00006215BCH).
So, the maximum profit daily is currently $6.5.
However, stats of PandaNFTs also apply and most users did not have top stats, so from my research, many teams lost one or two games.
With 4 wins which is probably the low target with an average team and low total score, the daily profit (currently) would be about $4.32.
For an initial investment of $200, this will require 46 days to completely cover the cost, and after that everything will be profit.
However, the price of PandaNFTs was 0.1BCH (with the price of BCH at about the same as today ~$320). PandaNFTs price is now higher by at least 80% for NFTs with low stats.
The investors at the mint phase stand at a good profit already, perhaps doubling their money. Still, I noticed the price of PDA tokens dropping significantly in one day, at about 20%, and this is alarming, as it may indicate a vast selling pressure that could change the profitability calculations.
Axie Infinity, Other Games, And Realistic Expectations
Can Pandaland challenge Axie Infinity or follow in its footsteps?
It is a good start but Axie wasn't based on anything else rather than marketing.
Axie was boosted by significant funding between 2019 and 2021.
Usually, in crypto, most hacks contain inside interference and rather often the big hacks happen at the peak of a bubble. What supported this bubble was a vast marketing campaign that lasted for years.
The year 2020 especially was the phase of awareness as news on Axie Infinity were daily published on major cryptocurrency media.
Axie found backing by funds and billionaires like Mark Cuban. It also initiated a vast marketing campaign with a focus on how Filipinos were making a wage from it.
In Conclusion

If the price of the PDA token is not sustainable but keeps dropping, then the initial profit rate will quickly deteriorate. I feel this needs to be pointed out, since profitability is not stable. In case Pandaland becomes popular, then of course the price of PDA will react positively.
I wrote previously the basic elements a successful blockchain game should contain to attract more users and sustain its game economics here: A Sustainable Play-To-Earn Gaming Model. These are my thoughts, though, and it doesn't necessarily have to be this way.
The core recommendation is to start including ads in games and platforms. This should become the main revenue stream for many games or platforms since attracting new users to sustain the play-to-earn model for the current users has certain limitations.
Nothing can work without ads if it doesn't present entertainment value. Until today we can't compare blockchain gaming with the actual games produced by corporations on the factor of entertainment. There is almost none in blockchain games like Axie and nobody would touch these games if they didn't contain the monetization factor.
