Infant:6-10mg
Male:10mg
Female :15mg
Pregnancy :30mg
Source of iron:-
kochu shack,green banana,green leafy vegetables, egg,liver etc.
Iron helps to transport oxygen and carbondioxide.
Iron essential for formation of enzymes necessary for cellular oxidation.
Deficiency of iron can cause iron deficiency anaemia(IDA).
sign/symptoms of IDA:-
Fatigue,weakness
pallor
dyspnea
Angular stomatitis
Koilonychia
Brittles nail
Causes of IDA:-
Inadequate iron intake
Gastrointestinal blood loss
Excessive menstruation
Malnutrition
Iron is stored mostly in the liver as ferritin or hemosiderin.So we should not this important element.
Iron is very important for women and during pregnancy and before surgry this level must be kept normal.
