She hated that road.

Every day after work, she had to drop off at the last bus stop and trek about half a kilometer before she could reach the apartment. She wouldn't really consider it a 'healthy' walk, since there was nothing healthy about the way her erratic pulse for the 30 minutes she spent walking around the streets of the dark neighborhood.

But today, it was different.

She could never explain the feeling - but she knew it was real. The feeling of being watched, of being monitored. That feeling never ceased to terrify her, and all of a sudden, the atmosphere around her became cold. Goosebumps broke out all over her skin as the hair on her hands stood on edge, her eyes darting left and right as she quickened her pace.

Get a grip, Amanda. Nothing's happening.

She started to slow down... before she noticed a shadow on the ground. Since their shadows were barely visible due to the poor lighting of the neighborhood, there was no way she could know how far off the person was. She turned. There was no one.

She exhaled deeply and continued walking. And then she noticed it again. The shadow, slender, and... approaching at a faster pace. She turned. No one.

Hell No

She broke into a run, dropping her bag on the road. The shadow increased its pace. She ran, dropping her bag as she turned around the corner. Her house was just a block away, but she was tired. Her muscles ached, and as she looked back, she still saw no one.

She pushed on, almost at her house when she tripped and fell. She winced as she had twisted her ankle in the fall, and she just stayed still, waiting for the shadow to get her.

Everywhere was silent.

"Can I help you?" a calm voice offered, extending a black, gloved hand towards her. She really needed to get a grip.

"Thanks," she said, grabbing onto the hand as she stood, looking at the ground. No shadow. As she looked at her her mystery helper, she couldn't help but notice how he loved dark-colored clothing. Black shoes. Black trousers. Black gloves...

Facing her helper, she tried her best to, but could not swallow the scream.

It was a black silhouette. No face, no clothes, nothing.
