Wondering where to go on vacation this year, but still can't decide? And how about trying a selection according to the specialties of the local cuisine?

If you like good food and like to try new tastes, a holiday in Egypt is the perfect choice for you! The range of local dishes is very diverse due to the rich history and the associated mixing of cultures. If you want to know what goodies Egypt has to offer, all-inclusive meals at local hotels are sure to offer you the best of them. But if you crave authentic Egyptian dining, you have no choice but to take to the streets and visit a local restaurant.

No matter where you decide to dine, you are sure to know what dishes you will find in Egypt. So let's take a look at the greatest delicacies of Egyptian cuisine that you should definitely taste!

1. Tameya

Almost anyone who knows at least a little bit of Arabic cuisine has heard of the chickpea ball called falafel. Tameya is basically its Egyptian version, the main difference lies in the basic fastener. In the case of Tameya, this is not chickpeas, but garden beans.

2. Molokhia

At first glance, Molokhita may resemble spinach from the school canteen, but it is a completely different dish in terms of taste. It is prepared from the leaves of jute along with the meat broth and the mixture of spices creates a delicacy, which is most often served with rice or bread.

3. Fatta

This meal accompanies most important life or religious (Christian and Muslim) events in Egypt. Rice, toasted bread and a large amount of spicy thin sauce form the basis to which juicy beef or bull's eye are most often served.

4. Kabab and Kofta

Lovers of good meat in Egypt will definitely not go hungry! Although the name of the dish covers two types of meat prepared in two different ways, Kabab and Kofta are often served together. Kabab are juicy cubes of grilled veal and Kofta are noodles of lamb roasted on a stick on the grill.

5. Hamam Mahshi

Roasting pigeons is not the prerogative of only the best chefs in Europe. Grilled pigeons have been prepared in Egypt for many centuries and to this day this dish is considered a great delicacy. Pigeons are most often filled with bulgur (crushed wheat) with a mixture of herbs.

6. Ful Mudamas

This dish dating from the time of the pharaohs themselves is very popular in Egypt. A mushy delicacy of beans, oil, garlic and lemon juice is most often served with pita bread or baguette and is often added to sandwiches.

7. Kushari

One of the most popular dishes in Egypt (and far from only among vegetarians) is Kushari. It is a relatively diverse mixture of rice, spaghetti, black lentils and thick tomato sauce, which is sprinkled on top with fried onions.

8. Hawawshi

At first glance, it may be a little unattractive, but everyone should taste the more interesting food called Hawawshi. The mixture of minced lamb with onion, beans and spices is baked inside the bread, making Hawawshi ideal as a quick meal in hand.

9. Shawarma

If you like Kebab, then you should try its Egyptian equivalent of Shawarma, which is equally popular in the Middle East. Meat flavored with a specific spice is always stuffed whole on the spit (while the meat on the Kebab is sometimes minced) and after cutting it is wrapped in a thin pita bread. The most common sauces are hummus, tahini, garlic dip and seasonal vegetables.

10. Konafa

And those who can't imagine good food without something sweet in the end should definitely try Konafa. Everyone who loves this dessert made from very thin crunchy noodles topped with melted butter and sugar syrup.
