5. Coast Guard Beach
While it is not possible to seriously evaluate one Cape Beach beach after another, visitors have no dispute that the Coast Guard beach in Eastham is simply breathtaking. Often recognized as one of the 10 best in various lists of the best beaches in America, it is difficult for sun lovers to disagree. Large, dramatic dunes return to the flat sandy beach, which is regularly filled with volleyball games, boogie boarders, surfers and sunset seekers.
There is a limited number of parking lots for residents only. Landing and removal on the beach are prohibited and carefully controlled. Visitors park in Little Creek on Doane Road and take a free shuttle to the beach. Transfers are very convenient and run every few minutes.
This is a very attractive place with its large sand dunes, nearby swamps and stunning sea views. The promenade leads directly to the beach and is equipped for the disabled. The surf is large and attracts surfers and adventurous boogie boarders. Watch out for interesting seals, which, although harmless, can be a little impressive. The sunset view makes the coast guard beach a popular place to end the day.
Services are somewhat limited and include lifeguards and toilets. There is also a wheelchair ramp to the beach.
Most of the hotels available in the area are decorated in motels. Some good options are the Midway Motel, or for a great pool and morning cupcakes, try the Eagle Wing Inn - Cape Cod.
6. Kennebunk Beach
With more than 5,000 miles of coastline, visitors can rest assured that they will be able to find a variety of beach experiences on the Maine coast. Although Kennebunks may be well known for its shops, the area also boasts beautiful beaches. Kennebunk Beach, also known as "Mother's", is a short sandy area with sheltered waters and beautiful views. The sand here is a good example of the concept of sand as talc, soft and gentle on the feet.
The ribbon of beaches is connected to each other, and stickers are needed from June to September. They can be obtained at the town hall. Amenities are few, but there are portable toilets and seasonal lifeguards. Kids will love the new playground. Dogs can be taken to the beach in the off-season until 9 am and after 5 pm, and they must be under the control of their owners. Be sure to check the calendar for various events and festivals that take place throughout the year.
Kennebunks are famous for their fantastic bed and breakfast rooms. Combining history and charm, the Captain Fairfield Inn, the 1802 House Bed & Breakfast Inn and the Captain Jefferds Inn are several favorites that also offer a sumptuous breakfast without forcing guests to return year after year. Nonantum Resort offers many additional activities on its menu, family entertainment and a lighthouse on site.
