3. Chatham Lighthouse Beach
Although there are several beaches overlooking Nantucket Sound, few say that the most beautiful is the beach of Chatham Lighthouse. The beach is located below the leading light of the active lighthouse, and this important attraction guides visiting boats and ships due to the fact that it can be insidious Chatham water.
Pay attention to the different areas for swimming, as the current can be quite strong. Danger areas are closed for your own protection. The policy here is to swim at your own risk - no rescuers are on duty, and patrol boats are monitoring the area for emergencies. Swimming under the red flag means that swimming is prohibited in all areas.
Although the coast is certainly picturesque, this area also relates to wildlife. A large population of seals is regularly observed, having fun in the waters and surrounding shores. There is a popular nature walk to Monomoy Island, where there are many birds. Seal tours are also offered from the beach.
Parking is limited, and a beach pass is required for parking along Bridge Street. The lighthouse is usually closed to visitors, but during the summer months a few lucky tourists will climb the tower during one of the accidental discoveries. The walk to the beach from the city is about half a mile.
Chatham has many accommodation options. Popular options are Chatham Inn and Main and Chatham Bars Inn Resort & Spa. For a better boutique experience, Chatham Tides has its own pool and beach, as well as a selection of suites.
4. Flight Point Beach
Cape Coda advice really has it all if you are looking for the best place on the beach in New England. As part of the national Cape Cod coast, this well-groomed section has stunning sunsets, a vibrant restaurant scene and plenty of activities on the social calendar that stretches even into the shoulder seasons. The Lands bike path is a solid path through the beach forest and up and over the dunes with stunning water views.
Adding a seasonal fast ferry from Boston delivers day visitors to the area in a quick 90 minutes. Whatever your way to the end of the Cape, you will all be pleasantly rewarded when you arrive at Flight Point Beach.
The space of the beach is wide and long. Due to its location at the confluence of Cape Cod and the Atlantic Ocean, the strip of sand is known for more turbulent waters and some dangerous tides. There are still many shallow waters for less experienced swimmers and children. The beach has seasonal toilets, showers and changing rooms.
If your stay in Provincetown lasts longer than a day trip, the Land End Inn offers luxurious rooms with majestic views of the Atlantic and beaches. Cape Colony Inn has additional facilities at this Cape Colony property with an outdoor pool. The Seaglass Spa Hotel enjoys a scenic hilltop location with spectacular sea views. For those who are not comfortable in the ocean and want a cool swim, the hotel has an outdoor pool for a pleasant swim.
