4. Lake Lucerne

The lake is located in the central part of Switzerland, at the foot of the famous Mount Riga in the Swiss Alps. This glacial lake is located at an altitude of 430 m. The water in the lake is clear, but cold, never warms up above 20 degrees. The lake consists of four basins connected by narrow straits.

Of course, due to the water temperature, swimming in the lake is a very dubious pleasure. Lake Luerwaldstat is a tourist and shipping center. There are many fish here. The surroundings of the lake are very picturesque and famous for their many attractions, mountain peaks and dense forests, resort towns and castle ruins.

Goethe, Wagner, Tolstoy, Turgenev, Balmont, Chagall, Chaplin, Picasso, Queen Victoria, Prime Minister Lloyd George, Alexandre Dumas, Emile Zola, Mark Twain, Edwin Fischer and many others drew inspiration on the shores of this beautiful lake.

5. Lake Orta

This lake is called the most romantic of all Italian lakes. It is known as picturesque corner of Italy “a gray pearl in a green box”. Lake Orta is famous for its amazingly beautiful views. On the shores of Lake Orta is the beautiful little town of Orta San Giulio with steep narrow streets and a promenade along the coast.

The main attraction of the lake is the tiny island of San Giulio, measuring 275 by 140 m. Legend has it that Saint Julius arrived in this region at the end of the 4th century. by order of Emperor Theodosius to spread Christianity. Julius asked to be taken to the island, but not a single boatman dared to do so. According to legend, it is believed that the dragons lived in Lake Orta, which the locals feared. Julio had to act on his own: he used his staff instead of a rudder, and his robe instead of a sail. On the island, he defeated dragons and built a church. The main attraction is the 9th century Basilica of San Giulio, where the relics of the saint are kept, surrounded by austere and majestic buildings.

Another attraction of Lake Orta is the Sacro Monte, the Holy Mountain is one of several mountain shrines in the area. At the top of the Sacro Monte there is a church and chapels dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi.

6. Lake Konigssee

In the heart of the Berchtesgaden Alpine National Park, in a spacious valley surrounded by colorful cliffs and cliffs, lies the emerald green Konigssee Lake. It is rightfully called the "King's Lake" and the main pearl of Bavaria.

Konigssee connects with another mountain lake Obersee. The landscape that forms the Konigssee and the neighboring Lake Obersee can be safely compared to the landscapes of Norway.

I recommend that you eat fish caught from King's Lake during your trip. Or you can buy smoked or salted fish delicacies right in the fishing hut to enjoy on the spot or to take with you. But fishing there is unlikely to succeed, since the right to fish for several centuries belongs to only one hereditary family of the fisherman. The compensation will be the beautiful views of Berchtesgaden, mountain peaks and unusual natural landscapes.

The emerald lake with crystal clear water is Germany's highest mountain lake and the deepest. Even in the hottest season, the water in Königssee is quite cold, because it is fed by numerous underground springs and springs. The lake is considered one of the cleanest in Germany, so after some purification, the water from the lake can even be drunk.
