They are special, extravagant and eye-catching - now I present to you the most special museums in the world, including a head-turned glass pyramid, concrete walls covered with 24 carat gold and a group of pineapple unions.

1. Metropolitan Museum of Art , New York, USA

Considered one of the best museums in the world, MMOA is located next to Central Park in New York City’s most elegant neighborhood, on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, and has been making visitors there since 1870. Even passers-by often stop for a moment to admire the museum’s entrance - and inside, they can enjoy more than two million works of art.

2. British Museum, London, United Kingdom

It is one of the largest museums in the world: more than 13 million works can be seen here from its beginnings to the present day. Even a year would not be enough to see them all properly, let alone countless ancient Greek and Roman sculptures! A real must have attraction if you are interested in the arts.

3. Louvre, Paris, France

Although many people only know the Louvre as the home of Leonardo di Vinci's painting, the Mona Lisa, in truth it was once a royal residence: its "secret" apartments can still be visited to this day, in fact, III. The Great Salon of the French Emperor Napoleon is also located here.

4. Doria Pamphilli Gallery, Rome, Italy

Most of Rome’s sights are open-air, but you can also explore beautiful covered sights if you catch a very rainy day in the Italian capital. The Doria Pamphilli Gallery is definitely worth a visit, as it is the largest privately owned museum in Rome and you can see original images of Caravaggio, Bruegel and Velazquez that you would not be able to see anywhere else.

5. The Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia, USA

To please fans of the Impressionist fine art style as well, I present to you the The Barnes Foundation, which has been in operation since 1925, where you can view mainly paintings by Picasso, Van Gogh, Modigliani and Matisse. Interestingly, the building pictured has only been home to the museum since 2012, in front of which a small aristocratic house in Merion has guarded these priceless treasures.
