The House Is Almost Complete! About a month ago I wrote a post about building a house for my wife's cousin. ( https://noise.cash/post/185p282n ) That house is now almost complete. All that needs to be done, I believe, is put in the windows. (That will happen once we get some more money.) Actually the house has been complete for more than a week now. I've just been too lazy to post this update. The first pic is of the front of the house. (The lady in the reddish shirt sitting on the porch is our Lola.) The second pic is of the back. Next is an interior shot, followed by a shot of the kitchen. (Okay, the kitchen needs work too.) The door to the left of the kitchen goes to an indoor CR, which is shown in the last pic. I don't understand why, but most Filipino toilets are like this, simply consisting of a very, very small commode, with no seat. So now everyone is waiting on yours truly to cough up some more cash so the house can finally be finished. I'm just waiting for my monthly pension payment to clear.

Seems like things are shaping up. It is odd to me about that toilet though. I mean, what's a seat cost? I can buy one here for $5. lol
I would think they cost less here, but folks are really poor. Really, really poor. Fortunately since we live in the country no one goes hungry, but most of the people here operate on the level of pesos. A Philippine Peso is worth about 2 cents American.
Yeepers. You'd think someone would want to fix this.
Any suggestions on how to go about doing that? I would think that stop having kids you can't feed would be a good start, but even that gets some pushback. (This country is predominantly Catholic, and you know their stance on birth control and abortion.)
I think the Philippines can do a lot to help its economy. But unfortunately there is too much corruption there, and the government does not necessarily foster an environment wherein people have many opportunities to be entrepreneurial and get ahead and join in on Western commerce.
I've always read that the Philippines is basically a plantation run by a few wealthy families. I'm a guest in this country, so I try to keep a low profile, and stay out of controversies.
It is controversial to want to lift people out of poverty? Interesting. lol Sounds like the democrat party. 🤣
I would not want to come here and do anything that would "shake up" the wealthy family's hold on things. At best I would be booted out of the country. At worst ..... use your imagination.
You mean they would not be interested in an American business partner?
Oh, I meant to act like a SJW, and try to "reform" Philippine society to ease the injustices. That would be self-defeating. Rich people usually have very good business instincts, so if it was in their best interest to have an American business partner, they would jump at the opportunity.

The owners have already started hanging posters and things like that. We just need to get those darn windows installed!

Finance? I don't think anybody here finances anything. Both trucks that we purchased I "financed" using credit cards. (Because of the obscene interest rate, that kinda hurt.) Most purchases are done using cash, the trusty Philippine Peso.
So it means you must be running out of money soon🤣
I prefer to think of it as investing in my wife's family farm, but truth be told, you are correct.

It's not as much fun to actually use one of those "baby commodes" as you would imagine, particularly for a fat old guy such as myself. In our house, our indoor CR, (bathroom), has a full-sized commode, complete with seat!

Yep. This is kinda a money pit here. But what can I do? These people are really deprived, and even my selfishness has its limits.
Definitely needs a lot more work to be done but so far so good. Nice of you to help build this house.
I agree with you that the house still needs work, (windows especially), but they are starting to move in already.
Perhaps, work can still continue while they are living there. IT will be harder but at least they can start getting accustomed to the house.

True. Put up the windows to keep the elements out of the house and keep the family members warm and dry inside.
