Human Thing or Nigerian Thing?

There is no denying I love my country and I would stick my head up for things to be better. We are Nigerians and we form what makes up Nigeria. We are quick to point fingers at our leaders and rightly so, but then we need to do things better too. We need to think better, see things better and choose our gaze better.

I am not going full blown into politics haha, so don’t worry I am not going on a full rant here. I am not too sure if this issue is only peculiar to Nigeria, but I feel it is about humans generally. I am going to go with what I see around me and it is quite disappointing.

Welcome to Nigeria where we make our own rules ourselves and we have set of rules for different people. It is so annoying that human relations is just not a serious thing for us. We seem to be on the look out to have someone slip up rather than help them up. You see others trying to attain greater heights and you will see another person hold off on the information that can make that person great, because if they can’t have it, then no one else should.

Everyone have a formed opinion and they guard it jealousy and they don’t want anything to mess it up. It is quite sad. Maybe this is why we haven’t developed the way we ought to, because we are focused on bringing others down rather than helping them. How are you expected to develop on your own when you are too focused on ruining others?

Welcome to Nigeria, where a lady visits you and they generally assume you have done ‘something’ with that lady. If they hear you laugh too much while being alone in the room with the lady, they judge you; thinking you have done something with such lady. You walk on the street, holding hands with another and yet they generally assume you are dating such a person. You can’t have an outing with a friend without people reading meaning to it.

You can’t see your friend and out of excitement scream or hug her tight without anyone thinking you have passed through her thighs.

Like I said, it is human nature and it is not entirely about Nigerians, but I am speaking based on what I have seen around in Nigeria. We need a shift in mentality. We need to think better, do better and expect the best of people all the time. Most of the people who judge, and who read meanings to things are seeing only the things they choose to focus on. You know when you choose to focus on the downside of people, which is exactly what you will see. We need to choose our focus carefully. We need to do better and think better.

In this part of the world, we judge things and assume a lot. We see what others don’t see and form an opinion as a result of it. The point is, all these people with terribly formed opinions would never allow others to judge them that way. One thing I have learned is, do your thing and never get too worried about what others think.

You are not expected to wake up every day just to please everyone, so do what gives you clear conscience that will enable you to sleep at night then never bother about what another person thinks.

I like it when people think differently, when they give others benefits of doubt and they don’t read unnecessary meaning to things. I like thinking differently and I dislike when some set pf people are stuck to a particular way of thinking based on the exposures they have had. I understand we have different background and ways of thinking which we have no control over, but we can choose to become a better person by thinking in a better way. Our thoughts shape our world. We need to focus on being a better human rather than try to bring others down just because we want to feel good about our own failings.

Thank you for your time.

My pen doesn't bleed, it speaks. I am love's chemical content in human form and that's why I advise people to take a dose of "Olawalium" daily. 🙈

It is a human thing for sure, same here in the Philippines. You always have to think first before you act because everyone has a lot to say like they have the right to do that, like seriously. Although I admit i am like this sometimes but I will never point it out. It is just all in my head, coz after all I can just think of it, but I will never know what really the truth ism

I think these things are common in many developing countries the one common thing which you highlighted is "judgement " while someone is spending a little or more time with woman in room and I think it's common everywhere people has to learn ethics and should improve our thinking style

We have to improve how we think, really. You have hit the nail on the head there. It's a general thinking because most people are quick to judge. It's funny that those who judge others are the ones that would be quick to do what they are judging others of.
