Life will always be easier when we have the heart to give. The issue we have sometimes is greed - when we think of only the things we want and can get. Life functions well when we show consideration to one another. I totally understand that we might not have enough but the truth is, we can't always have enough because as humans, our wants are insatiable. We always want more even when we have attained the height we initially set for ourselves and that's not a bad thing. In the midst of our wants and desires, we can show the spirit of sacrifice to help others.
The truth is, no matter your state - the things you have or the things you don't have, there would always be others who have things better than you or less than you. This quote always keep me humble: "Stop being proud because you have bread to eat. Remember, someone owns that bakery". Our own peak (the height of our achievement) was another person's starting point and others starting point could as well be another person's peak. That's life.
Life is designed to function where we can be of help to one another. Life is about helping. I know some people are careful about helping another because it has landed them in more issues than they bargained for but the truth is, we can be a part of something worthwhile and any avenue we can explore to do something that would put a smile on other people's faces, we should do it.
Life is all about sacrifices. We sacrifice something every day. In Economics we call it opportunity cost - the alternative you forgo just to satisfy another want. Sacrifices very but there is no sacrifice that is too little. Despite your obvious wants and desires, if you can go out of your way to make another happy, please, do it. Life should be so much easier with you.
The truth is, a lot of people are going through so much. Life is hard enough and there would always be people around that we can reach out to - those we see are not quite there yet. Sometimes I feel the system of government has been designed to make everyone fail. The government will frustrate you and life of course doesn't give hand outs but we are all that we have. I understand that there are people that are naturally lazy - they want handouts and just wouldn't do anything but still, we have those who work so hard but still, their means of sustenance is hanging by a thread.
Just yesterday, the rain fell. It wasn't that heavy but it was raining for a long stretch and the water rose higher to people's knees. Some had their cars soaked in water while most people got stuck and couldn't even go anywhere else. Most people didn't even sleep in their houses as a result of this. Yes, it is easier for us to blame it on the government and rightly so, but this brings me to the point I have been trying to raise - we are all we got. The system has been designed to make us feel relaxed and to fail but when each of us keep chipping in our bits, every little bit helps. This is why I was excited to be part of the food distribution that has been scheduled for today to put a smile on the faces of families in a particular location.
I woke up quite early today to set out for the food distribution. The location is quite a stretch from where I stayed and the food items were quite much because we planned on giving it to at least a thousand family members. The food items were loaded into the truck and we joined the coastal bus to the location. We got delayed a bit because one of our members invited her friend to come and she was having issues navigating her way to where we were. I was excited though because she really wanted to be part of something like this and there is a way such an experience will shape you and you will always want to reproduce it anywhere you go.
We got there and it was more than we bargained for hahaha... I kind of anticipated it but I was more shocked at the lack of coordination and the rush. Maybe they feared it would get exhausted before it gets to their turn but it was too crowded. We did everything we can, even move the truck a bit to give more space, they still wouldn't bulge. I was more scared due to the covid restrictions but I am glad we finally got through and gave to them. It hurts more because we still had some people we were unable to get despite covering a larger part of that area.
The local area boys in that vicinity didn't make things easier because they wanted a huge share from what we wanted to share to their people. I think this is why most people are suffering. An average person wants everything for himself or herself without caring whose ox is gored. I am glad we finished the distribution despite the hurdles we had to cross to achieve it.
Giving has never felt this good especially when you know someone is going to bed happy and thankful to God for coming in contact with you. This is the whole essence of life - making life easier for one another. I am excited to be part of it and I am grateful for the opportunity too. I love giving...
Thank you for your time.
Thank you for sharing your experience. When you do something like this, the greatest satisfaction is seeing the faces of the people who receive help. That makes anyone's day. :)
