Some Days Should Be Spent At The Playground
August 7, 2022
Some days are particularly uneventful and today is one of those days when I don't have much to share. So, let me just take you back in time when we had a chance to spend half of our Saturday at the playground. My niece's life revolves around playing with toys with my dad or going for an afternoon stroll at the farm with my brother and sister feeding the goat and the pigs.
She hasn't been to school yet so the only time she's out of our house is limited. It just happens when we go to church or when mom takes her as she does errands.
With the pandemic slowly turning to be endemic, we took her to the town to see more people, and more buildings and expose her to the world outside.
We took her to the plaza and introduced her to our National Hero. Haha. She said his name after me.
During this time, her mom was busy buying essentials for home use. So, we stayed here. She was fuzzy as she saw a playground across this place but I can't let her play yet as the sun's scorching heat would only tire her easily. I told her to wait for a few minutes and that we would just wait for the time when the trees would provide shade to the playground. She would never listen to me so I got her ice cream first.
Calm and not fuzzy anymore as she sat happily enjoying her ice cream under the tree. I let her sit there so she won't be struck by the sun's heat. After a few minutes, I couldn't entertain her anymore and let her wait for a longer time.
Off we go to the next block where the playground is situated.
She was a happy kid that day. She seldom plays on a playground. The one available in the elementary school in our barangay isn't that safe for kids. The materials used were concrete and the slides were very high.
Even when the sun is shining so bright, still it doesn't hinder her from swinging. The little joys that play brings are unbelievable and can't be paid by any amount of money.
At first, she has the playground all by herself. Later on, some kids joined her and it made her happier as she enjoyed running after them and following their steps. She would go on tailing after older kids and doing the same tricks as the other children.
I'm just so happy seeing her as she enjoys her time at the playground. We have a hard time leaving the place as she doesn't want to go home yet. So, we let her play for a long time until she gets tired and until she wants to go home.
Kids must play often but due to the pandemic, some kids' play time was sacrificed. They can play indoors but it will still be limited. When they are outdoors, they can run freely under the sun enjoying the fresh air.
I hope all kids would have all the time they need to play. We would only be kids once, so might as well, make the most of it. When they enter their studying years, playtime would be limited and it would never be the same again.
Thanks for your time. Until the next read!
