Going to South Cebu, Oslob
After all the things we had done in Cebu City, it was time to go to Oslob. This is the main reason why we traveled to the province. If you had checked my previous postings, these were the events in the past days:
We had the chance to meet up with our church friends and James' ex-colleagues. We appreciate that they had given time for us to see each other. As we reached home that night, we had discussed that we need to travel to Oslob on the next day. I was not sure about going out of the house early because we slept a bit late already.
So when the morning came, I decided to prepare breakfast first before we head out of the house. We were just waiting for Matti to wake up.
We pulled over to McDonald's' in Talisay for some coffee. It was already ten in the morning by the way but I am glad that they still had coffee available. I asked for a Vanilla iced coffee instead as it was already very hot that day. My husband got a hot one. Matti, on the other hand, was already sleeping.
The coffee suited very well with the raisin cream cheese bread from Breadtalk, my favorite bakery! I always make sure to grab a pack of their bread either this or the cheese earthquake one, the Breadtalk in Ayala IT Park ran out of the cheese earthquake but thankfully, they had the raisin one.
But our orders were not given immediately because we ordered some pies and it would take another 5 minutes so we parked at the Casio Filipino area since there was a pharmacy nearby, my husband decided to get medicine for Matti's colds.
Our orders came and we were back on the road. Cebu's traffic is back! Look at the traffic below:
Well, actually, it was just in Talisay. After passing by that busy area, the rest was already smooth.
Do you always enumerate towns when traveling? I do. I would try to look for landmarks to remind me which town are we already in. I'd look for municipal halls, parks, establishments. Here's one below, the municipal hall of San Fernando.
Just to give you an overview, from Cebu City, we have to pass by Talisay City and then to Minglanilla, then Naga City, and then San Fernando. This town is well known before for having an odd smell of piggery because there's a huge piggery business nearby. Since we are traveling in a car, I didn't smell anything but I believe the town still smells bad.
I guess the residents nearby had already gotten used to the smell. I heard that the piggery owner would often give free meat to the neighborhood every week as a consolation for the bad odor. But I hope that this isn't the case anymore today. I have read thevnews before about other citizens complaining about it.
There's also a cement factory in this town, Taiheiyo Cement, and mind you, this area is just filled with dust. From the trees to the roofs, to everything around, the dust made this area dull. I wish the rain would clean those plants and leaves. They might be having a hard time breathing!
It's a Japanese company though and it has been operating for 2o years already. The term Taiheiyo means the Pacific Ocean, I just googled that today.
After San Fernando, we reached Carcar City. I am always amazed by the numerous Acacia trees which are century-old ones. These trees were planned to be cut before for road widening but there were many who protested, I for one do not want that these trees to be cut too. They look really beautiful whenever we pass by this area.
By the way, when we traveled from Tubigon, James met a police officer who said the trees were down during Typhoon Odette. We were saddened when he mentioned that but thankfully, the trees were fine. As you can see in the images, they just lost some of their leaves but they are definitely alive!
Carcar City has been known before as a city which always has bad traffic flow. That day of travel, there was no heavy traffic at all.
We stopped by at a Shell gas station in Carcar. That day, the gas hike started. The night before, we noticed a lot of the vehicles were lining up on the different gas stations,s and then we realized when we were traveling that there was already an oil price hike.
From 75 pesos the other day to a whopping 81 pesos!
We didn't stop for lunch because we bought meals already at McDonalds. Matti woke up at noon time and I fed him with what we bought at the drive tru. We regret that we didn't stop though for lunch but we have to be fast because my husband still has to work.
I wasn't able to take photos as well because I slept while Matti was also sleeping. I would want to stay awake so I could talk to my husband while driving but my eyes were too heavy.
From Carcar City, there's Sibonga, then Argao, which is a huge town too. That was where we usually traveled before from Loon. Then Dalaguete, Alcoy, Boljoon, and finally Oslob.
The family didn't have a single idea that we were on the way home. They were definitely surprised when they saw the car. We could see their facial expressions.
That night, we had kinilaw or ceviche and grilled tulingan. That's a great welcome meal for us! I miss kinilaw, it was really good because the fish was very fresh!
That's it! Thanks for reading and traveling with me to the south of Cebu!
