On Saturday afternoon, we reached our house after traveling from Panglao and Tagbilaran only to find out that our room’s air conditioner is not cooling.
Before driving home, we stopped by Tagbilaran City to buy some important stuff. So instead of arriving home at around two or three in the afternoon, we reached only at around quarter to five, it was a chill afternoon but humid inside our room so it was disappointing that the air-conditioning was not cooling the area. I was asking my mother what transpired, or if anyone had used it and they alleged tried turning it on a few times but just turned it off because it was not cooling too.
We let it be like that for the entire night, it was like having an air conditioner but only used for its fan. I was worried too that it might be broken or what.
Before leaving Bohol, on the first week of November, we had hired someone to clean it. It was doing well in fact, then came November 6 when we had to travel to Cebu City. We had turned off everything in our room including the ac as no one was staying there but later on, my parents opened our room as my niece loves to have her afternoon classes in my table station.
Now came Sunday and it was still not cooling. I tried searching on the internet for some immediate remedy, it mentions that if the AC is not cooling, it might be that the filter is dirty, or the coil was blocked. I don’t know how to check these things so, after church, we asked around if there’s anyone else who can check the electronic.
Gladly, the person who installed it was available. Erwin as how we usually call him brought with him another technician and they quickly checked the outside unit as this is a split type of air-conditioner.
Immediately, they found out that there’s leaking and the coil is frozen! I could see that the coil indeed is covered with those white frozen thingy, it is similar to a popsicle covered in white when it just came from the freezer. So I believed him when he said the Freons might also be less or worse running out.
They checked it using some of their gauge material, I wanted to ask about what those things were but I just let them do their job instead while I wait for it to be fixed. They told me this will cost us Php 1500 which includes the labor. Their fix is to check the leak, seal it, and load up some freons.
Upon checking, they mentioned that the freons were already at 70 levels while it requires 150. Okay, I don't have any background in things like this so I just have to trust them as they are more experienced and for sure they had worked on so many things similar to this.
Perhaps the leaking had caused this so they loaded it and after a while, when they turned on the ac, it was already showing signs of cooling. I am relieved! At last! But my husband who came from his office told me that it was just the same so I was in doubt again. I just assured him that the technicians can go back if we will contact them. For now, it is better to just observe it and let the freons or whatever it is do its work, it was just on for a few minutes, perhaps it needs some warm-up! He agreed.
Our unit in Cebu City also has an air conditioner and it was left in there for more than a year without being used, in fact, when my sister-in-law came to get some stuff from our unit, she told us that some insects were comfortably living inside the AC! But when we visited it last week, it was working well, we had it cleaned on the first week of November, there was no such thing as freons being low or whatever but this one on the other hand had given us a headache.
But then, all is well now. I am writing this at four in the morning and the temperature had already lowered. When I went to bed, I set the temperature to 20 and now, the room temperature had reached 23, yesterday, it was always at 29.
I do wish that it won’t occur again. The technicians told me it is even better to keep the air conditioner on rather than leave it off for weeks. I was amazed at what he said.
Have you had this experience with your air conditioner?
