Confessions of an Avid "Miner"

In almost all of the live selling in Facebook she's there, competing to be the first miner for a dress, or a rug, or a jewelry. She wants always to be the first, she wants always to say "mine" to products that allures her. She can't control herself from not saying "mine", she's now an avid "miner", addicted to buying things even not needed.

In this article I will define "miner" as the person who says mine to products in online selling whether it be live selling or not.

In my last article - Live Selling : Trend in Online Selling, I shared about the trend now which is using livestreams to sell products. It becomes so popular nowadays, and along with that trend, there's also an addiction to saying "mine" to products. I was actually talking to my friend because I want to research on behaviors, factors that influences the "miners" in saying mine to products. Then I discovered that she herself is an avid miner, she said she is addict in saying mine and she confesses her addiction.

Her Addiction to saying "mine"

It all started with a single first "mine", then it makes her happy so she "mine" again, and then "mine" again and then that one "mine" now becomes countless "mines" until then she became so addict that almost all of the live selling she's present and competing always to be the first. Then when the products are delivered to her she then realize that she doesn't needed all of it at all. But still she keeps on adding to her collections. So I ask her what do you think are the factors that influences you in saying "mine" to those products and here are her answers.

  • New and attractive product. She became attracted with colors, appearance of the products especially if she is not yet having a possession of those. She would like to have the possession of those products even if she's not needing it at all.

  • Seller Factor. She said that she became convinced with sellers way of presenting the products. It's as if the seller knows every detail of the product partnered with a good voice, there, she again allured to say "mine".

  • The feeling of winning. Being the first to say "mine" to a product gives her the winning feeling. The process is like a competition and she will be applauded and looked upon by others because she is the first to say "mine".

This article makes me remember the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic which features a girl who has an obsession to shopping and actually fall into a bad debt because she's using credit cards in her purchases. She then realize that the things she shopped are actually not her need after all and she looks for ways on how to make things right.

Being a avid "miner" is not at all bad, some people say that it is their way of coping up to stress or that makes them happy. What makes it negative is when you are not able to control yourself of saying "mine" and you are now out of budget. The money that is intended for your needs are now used for paying your "mines" which is actually not so necessary. Here are some tips that you can do when you are into this kind of situation:

  • Don't join or view live selling. I think this is really the step one in controlling the urge of saying mine. If you are not joining a live selling, you will not be tempted to say mine to those products.

  • Learn to say "No". Ask yourself, do I really need this? Do I still have a budget for this? If you have "no" as answers. Then learn to say "no" to saying "mine".

  • Think many times before you say "mine". Before you gave in to saying "mine" think about it many times and go back to Action Point no. 2 of asking yourself those questions.

CONCLUSION

Joining in live selling and saying "mine" to products is not bad, you are actually helping others in their living, but when things becomes an obsession, it may bring someone to trouble. Just always remember that everything should be done in moderation, when you are able to control yourself and you are not having a problem in terms of budget then all things are working well.

Do you have experiences of becoming an "avid miner"? or do you know someone who is doing such? I would like to know about your experiences in the comment section below.

Personally, I don't watch live sellings. It is so tempting to say 'Mine'. Hahaha!

You are very right in the part that buying is not bad and it even helps others, but it becomes negative when it is done excessively..

Yes, tempting indeed. I was always tempted with bags before, but now before I say mine, I always ask myself, do I need this? Do I have a budget for this? don't want to be a compulsive, impulsive buyer and regret later. hehe
