The eclecticism in writing

Once again I bring you a great and super interesting word, eclecticism.

Eclecticism, according to the dictionary of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language, comes from eclectic e-isms, it is the adoption in judging or acting of an intermediate position between different doctrines or attitudes. This is the first meaning.

The second meaning is a combination of elements of different styles, ideas or possibilities, for example architectural eclecticism.

And the third definition is the philosophical school that tries to reconcile the doctrines that seem better or more plausible, even though they come from different systems.

Generally, we take the meaning of eclectic as something that is the fusion of all the varieties in its style or content, therefore it is given the meaning of being a neutral position before something or being the combination of all those tendencies or ideas.

Examples of eclecticism, well, it can easily be someone like me who enjoys different literary genres, so I can easily say that I am an eclectic reader, because I like to read fantasy, science fiction, detective novels, horror, so I I am an eclectic reader.

Another example could easily be a chef who combines different styles of world gastronomy, for example, he combines Italian gastronomy with Mexican gastronomy and Thai gastronomy, then he is a chef who practices eclecticism, therefore, he is an eclectic chef.

And I want to talk previously today about what eclecticism is in writing, because although we know that the general rules of writing give us three principles, which are the principle of thesis, antithesis and synthesis, this is obviously a process that is eclectic. because the synthesis is the fusion of the thesis and the antithesis. So eclecticism in writing is a process that is very enriching and super important.

In order to create any work we must go through each of these steps, it is what the great screenwriters of movies and television series do, they create a proposal or a thesis at the beginning and after being tested and analyzed they go to the antithesis, or is the complete opposite of what they wrote as the counterpart, and once this counterpart has been tested and enjoyed or analyzed by people, they create the fusion between the two, thus bringing us eclectic and highly interesting materials.

One of the greatest and proudest examples of eclectic writing is Gabriel García Márquez with his stupendous novel 100 Years of Solitude, it is a novel that touches many points and makes us explore many ideas about all the stories of the Buendía family and their tails of pigs and thousands of other things, which he shows us in his brilliant work.

I also cannot stop mentioning Jorge Luis Borges with all the elements of fantastic literature, philosophy and literary criticism that he shows us in one of his most famous works, which is "fictions", so these are samples of what is eclectic writing.

I am a big fan of eclecticism and minimalism, I practice it in my publications, in my life and in as many things as I can and because it is something that I find extremely seductive and extremely intelligent.
